Dearest Mrs Wife, for reasons she alone comprehends, bought a piano. No one plays, but she's decided that she wants one. So the piano was bought and we collected it yesterday with the help of a very clever piano moving man. But no, it is not a piano, it is a pianola - a self playing piano. The sellers did not know it was a pianola and once we got it home we found, inside the case, two dozen rolls of music. The mechanism doesn't seem to work, but it may just be that I don't know hos it is supposed to operate. Brute force and ignorance will not suffice. So now I need to find someone who can help me work out how the elephant this thing works. I think it will be quite fun to get the mechanism sorted out and serviced. In the mean time, it's back to 20 Tunes for Little Hands for me.

Are you really sure she comprehends?

My wife 'bought' a piano (upright) last year, it was free to collector, despite us having absolutely no room in the house and no way of moving it. It was in the village so her idea was for me to push it back to our house. Fortunately this was the day before my car accident so I was unable to go and get it and she had to let someone else have it.

This was 'free' through the church. The people who had it were gifted it, but had no use, so put an ad in the news letter asking for a donation to the church only. We gave a nice donation plus I had to pay £85 to get yerman to do mvoe it for us. If you are familiar with the famed brick shiouthouse, you can envisage his build. Even then it required piano wheels [which he had] and a lot of ramps to move it.
