Is It A Merkan Thing...

Airline cabin crew and announcers on trains seem to do the same thing pretty consistently. "If you have any questions, please come and talk to myself." X| "Myself" is for people who don't know whether to say "me" or "I", and aren't satisfied with only being wrong 50% of the time.

Spot on. It just gets on my tits whenever I hear it. Always those dopey Gen Y bastards who are always talking about their four-head and spending a four-choooon.

The words myself, yourself etc are reflective pronouns. So "I saw me on tv" would be utter tosh as the person is the same so we use the reflexive form "I saw myself on tv".

So you speak fluent twat. You would say 'I was on TV' or 'Did you see me on TV?'. How do you explain the use below from a post several pages down I read an hour or so ago? ...and to compete with bigger companies have needed to react faster and produce better stuff, so its myself who decides this to launch products quickly... 'So it's me who decides' or 'I decide'.

There are times when "myself" / "yourself" is the correct word. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't seem to know when that is. :sigh:

People in America talk like that? I've never heard that. I do talk to myself but I wouldn't tell someone else to come talk to myself. That is ridiculous.
There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Who can you see in the mirror? I can see myself. I need a bottle of gin for myself. Would you like some run for yourself? etc, etc, etc.

The correct time is when object and subject match.

I don't know about America, but I seem to hear it every time I'm on a plane, every time I'm on the Eurostar, and frequently on UK train announcements.

You're going to give grammar lessons? :) Do you have any examples. If so, can you share them with myself? :-D I've never heard Americans talk the way you are suggesting.

Indeed - it's spelt* 'merkin. That's what "W" called you[^], and that's how the rest of the world sees you[^]. ;P * Before you ask, this is the correct spelling outside of 'merka. http://www.grammar-monster.com/easily_confused/spelled_spelt.htm[^]

Must be a Southern thing... I can't recall myself ever hearing that up here.... myself... Actually, sometimes people say "Talk to [these other people] or myself"... It's how they try to sound sophisticated. Unsuccessfully, I might add.
Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

I, myself, am not sure, but myself am Merkan and it makes me laugh to hear someoneself refer to themselves as themselves. Usually a simple "me" or "us" would do, but I, myself, hypothesize that the uneducated think using a longer word makes themselves appear to be more sophisticated than themselves actually are. I, myself, suspect that the custom of using a reflexive grammatical construct was imported from other languages where such constructs are normal.

I've never heard anyone in America do that except by mistake. Could be due to extended exposure to bad elements from overseas
