The Next Big Programming Language You’ve Never Heard Of [^] A decent write-up on this. Anyone used this? Opinions? Worth looking at or a dead-end?

"D" was the next big thing back when I was in college learning "C", 14 years ago. Has something changed?

I was working on a new language called "C+++" but now "D" seems to have jumped ahead... I could rename it "E" I suppose... no, that's been done. Ok, "F" it is... er... "G"... "H"... Aha! "H" it is! I'd better call it H++ straight away before someone takes that.

...which tells you everything you need to know about teachers and their sense of humour. :sigh: And it's shared by policemen, too.

It looks to be literally as well as alphabetically somewhere between C++ and F# (or Haskell). I can't see a genuinely unique proposition though - so I'm thinking hobby material rather than astute career bet.

Nah, it's the language from 2001. Read the wiki page[^]. Note the reference to both Walter Bright and Andrei Alexandrescu.

Which is why I was curious. The final paragraph of the article "Certainly, D still faces a long road to success. But this new language has already come further than most." caught my attention.

There are links in the article to the author's book on Amazon and from that you can find out that D1 (or D) has been superseded by D2 which includes "ranges" which are like iterators but different. This page[^] is probably a much better starting point. However - any language that includes imaginary numbers [^]as a basic data type is pretty wacky ;-)
