Forgotten Skills
-
I've been doing this computing lark for quite a long time and still like to get my hands dirty crafting beautifully manicured code. What I don't do, nor do I recall ever having to do, is create a custom sort algorithm. I don't think I could without looking it up; oh, I know what many of them are called and recall, vaguely, the workings but I doubt I could articulate any of them without looking it up first. There are probably many other 'skills' I learnt in the dim and distant past but have now forgotten due to lack of use (like Visual Basic Smile | :) ). What did you learn and never get around to using or, in fact, ever need to use?

Well, I didn't think I'd ever need those tire changing skills again, or catching falling children until I needed them near the end of next week...

You'll never get very far if all you do is follow instructions.

That question just begs for a certain answer, but I'm only 51 so it doesn't apply to me yet (or hopefully ever!) Other answers: making fire killing a chicken Marc

Not a lot really. I stick to solving almost everything with C++ and try hard to avoid having to immerse myself too much in anything else that isn't the job in hand. I have seen many things come and go and I am very relaxed about not having bothered to learn them. Why think that you have to be master of everything? That is megalomania. You might think it looks good on your CV but to me, any profficiency list with more than three items looks like a list of superficial dabblings.
