If you somehow got infinite money...

Would you stop working? Would you find a new career? Would you start your own business? I'm not sure. Work isn't all fun and games, but neither is sitting at home and partying all day... At least work makes you feel kind of useful. I'd probably work less though. And travel more. I was wondering what the average CP'er would do. I know there's some people here who really love to code :D

public class SanderRossel : Lazy<Person>
{
public void DoWork()
{
throw new NotSupportedException();
}
}I've got lots of plans for when I'm incredibly wealthy, I reckon I need about £100 million if any wants to help me out. For that amount I'd do something for all my family, all my friends, a few choice colleagues I like a lot who serious life long health issues, the village I live in, the city I grew up in, things that would help people out, make their lives more fun, try to build a better community. For myself I'd buy a number of extravagant houses in various parts of the UK, pay for my daughter to go to a good school near here, and travel a lot, everywhere, experience as much as possible, see as much as possible. I undoubtedly would not write another line of code, ever. I would probably pay people to write some for ideas I have though. Infinite money is no different to more money than you could spend, and I reckon that'd do me. No need to spend money just to be an arsehole.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Just a little bit infinite ;p

I'd pass it along to everyone else.
If everyone has infinite money then no one has infinite money...

I would pass the information about that "somehow" to every person I meet. You are welcome. :rolleyes: [EDIT] Wow! Just realized someone else[^] is also trying to make this world a better place to live! :-\ [/EDIT]
Whether I think I can, or think I can't, I am always bloody right!
I'll give you the same answer :)[^] And what if that "somehow" was not repeatable? ;)

Yes, but it would be a shame. I actually really like what I do.

Unlikely, I am not fit for much else! :)

Why have the responsibility? Yeah, that's about right for me. I would lke to sail round the med for a year or two for example, get a 10 meter yacht, and just zone out for a bit.

And travel moreSign a petition calling for the boycott of Israel until it returns to its legal 1967 borders.

What responsibility? you can just throw money at it until it reaches google's level.
But at some stage you will take it seriously, and it will keep you awake at night with worry. :)

With infinite money, you could directly buy Google, you know.. :) And who would want to start a new business if one already has infinite money? :laugh:

}Of course I'd stop work, work is a way of getting money to live life, and while I quite enjoy the job I have, it's not something I'd choose to do if I didn't need to be paid. (If any job was that awesome then people wouldn't need to be paid to do it, after all.) I'd probably set up a game development studio for the business side of life. I've always wanted to get into that but it's prohibitively expensive and difficult as a part time project. I'd buy a nice yacht and cruise around the world visiting places I've wanted to see for a while, as well. And some nice houses in pretty places. I'd probably still do a bit of coding on the side though. I don't really think I'd know how to spend more than about £50m, and that's including really going over the top on the yacht.

I'd stop working. I would not stop coding. I would like to approach some charities I admire that have awful websites, and offer to write them good ones, I've considered doing that, either way.

Since you'd have infinite money, you might as well give money to the people the charity are helping, and make the need of a website obsolete...

No, they'd stop printing currency. But I suppose you could scrape yourself with a debit card.

FTFY
A positive attitude may not solve every problem, but it will annoy enough people to be worth the effort.

Infinite money is a TERRIBLE idea. If everyone had enough money to never work, the world would stop. And if someone had infinite money and could help anyone they wanted, the law of unintended consequences would wreak havok.
