Teach Grandma to Code and Launch a Start-Up

Where did this idea come from that learning to write a hello world program will teach you how to be an entrepreneur, let alone a programmer? Even tech entrepreneurs don't need to know anything about programming, they hire programmers for that, and they probably aren't going to be hiring grandma. But somehow if we just get everyone to write apps we'll save the economy. I'd hate to be the poor bastard who has to try to show grandma how to use Eclipse. This quote is fun: "Writing computer code isn’t very hard. Anyone can learn" Yeah. Anyone can learn to splint a fracture too, but that doesn't make them an orthopedist.
Most older people I know barely know how to turn a computer on and the last thing they want to do is learn how to program. If they wanted to learn they would have started a hell of a lot earlier in life.
Have you ever just looked at someone and knew the wheel was turning but the hamster was dead? Trying to understand the behavior of some people is like trying to smell the color 9.

"Learning" isn't enough. I have a lot of knowledge that I am just no good at putting into practice (chess, tennis, swimming).

I was going to add something like "so unless 'save the economy' means 'pay off the national debt...' ".

And there is another problem: which Granny? Most people start with two... And both of mine are no longer with us, so they are gonna be really hard to teach. ;)

My daughter has three grandfathers, my brother's kids have three grandfathers and three grandmothers. OK, one of each should have step- in front of them, but as far as the kids are concerned they are the real thing. For my part I had one grandfather, the other buggered off in 1960 and I've only heard him mentioned a couple of times my whole life.
