As many of you probably know, Microsoft bought Connectix at the beginning of February. Connectix is the maker of the VirtualPC and a competitor of VMWare. After April 15th, Microsoft takes over completely. I am wondering what the possibility of VirtualPC getting included into MSDN is? Has anybody heard anything? Is this the type of thing they would add? It is of course a great development tool so it would make since. Any comments? Jonathan

I read somewhere that they're planning on integrating it into their server products. Instead of leaving the processor idling at ~10-15% you can have more than one server on a physical machine.

Yeah--from what I've been reading, I think we're more likely to see MS integrate virtualization into future OSes than have a separate installable package like VirtualPC is in its current state.

There's 2 different products. Virtual PC, and Virtual PC Server. The server edition is still in beta. Microsoft will probably release it in Q3 this year, as they purchased it as a beta product. The Virtual Edition that we know, and which runs on Windows and MAC, will continue as the product we already know. That's what I have read different places since MS bought Connectix. - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!"

So am I, but I think that chances are good, it's a great tool that I use all the time :) Jonathan Austin wrote: Has anybody heard anything? Oh great! Now we'll see yet another niche of software vendors get crushed by the giant Microsoft. Mark my words. In 5 years, nobody will remember the name VMWare. -- Shine, enlighten me - shine Shine, awaken me - shine Shine for all your suffering - shine
