          It is entirely symbolic. Those McDonald's opened when the Cold War ended. It is purely symbolic of something much, much larger. Those McDonand's are now closed.

                        That's actually the first sign of good sense he's shown for quite some time... I don't know how healthy the Russian food is normally, but it's gotta be healthier than McDonalds food... If nothing else, I'm sure that vodka is good for the digestion! ;)

                                        In the Russian mindset, or at least Putin's neo-Soviet one, there's no difference between the state and companies from that state, because every company is either controlled by the state or run with the approval of the state. They really don't understand the concept of independent companies and groups within a country, apart from as troublemakers. To be fair it's not just Russia that thinks like that (how many anti-state companies are permitted to exist in Iran, or Bahrain?).
