Yes, even I think Mongia should watch the matches from the dressing room. Kumble should be brought in, or at least Ajit Agarkar, or in the case of Australia, I think Muralidharan would be a good bet. I wonder what Mongia has done for the team so far that he's playing while Kumble isn't.

The advantage with playing both Kumble and Harbajan is that if at least one of them bowls well, that's darn good for us. When we play Aussies in the finals the 5th bowler will be a problem area! While I can't say for sure, I don't think so. I don't know what ICC's criteria is for awarding test status to teams, but maybe it depends on the number of years you have played, or the number of ODIs you have played, or how the playing facilities are there in your country, so you could host a few international tournaments. I don't know. But I also think that whatever criteria Bangladesh fulfilled when it got its test status, they still fulfil it now. Their game hasn't changed, at least. They used to play bad, and they still play bad. :)

Yes, and the best thing about Kumble is that he's a thinking bowler. Always has his thinking cap on. Even though he can't turn the ball much, he has enough variations in the line, length and pace of the ball that he can easily beat the batsman. Partially true I guess, but what I think happened is that Indian and Pak boards must have pushed for Bangladesh so that they can have an extra vote in the ICC. If it was Kenya then it'd be SA and Zimb that benefit. Typically you see this divide in the ICC. India, Pak, SL stick together. Nice to say that about India and Pak being in one team for a change :-) And despite all outward differences the Aussies and Brits stick together, and very curiously the West Indians support them [they havent lost their british colonial hangover I guess]. And the south africans and zimbabweans also seem to have a british-aussie tilt. Same for NZ. Hmmmm, maybe we should try and get test status for Maldives, the difficulty would obviously be to find 11 fit adult males who will agree to dress in white and stand in the sun for 7 hours ! Nish

Yes, but he's been having a lot of fitness problems. Whenever he plays a long innings he starts having problems. Cramps here, sprain there... :( He just came back after taking a rest for the World Cup and look what happened in the match against Pakistan. And even in the practise sessions, he gets these problems sometimes. :( Saurav is an year older than Sachin, but he will be there in 2007, I think.

But as you said, Tendulkar is indeed sorta unhealthy for a world class cricketer. Guys like Viv Richards, Ian Botham and Kapil Dev were so fit through their careers (though Botham did have one major injury early in his career which completely took the bite out of his bowling in his later years). Maybe Tendulkar eats too much. I think India should appoint a couple of diet experts to look after his diet. I mean it's an invasion of his privacy, but Sachin has lost ownership over himself. He belongs to 200 million cricket crazy Indians now. Sachin, all your base are belong to us. Nish :-)
