It's all happening at our place at the moment - we've just come into spring and the snakes have come out to find a mate... We have had four different carpet snakes cruise by in the past day - all heading for the large female carpet snake we have that lives in the ceiling... When I say large, I mean HUGE... she's over 4m long... The four snakes that went past were probably 3.5m plus, 3.5m, 2.5m and 2m long... Got some good pics of them if anyone is interested - I'll have to get them off my phone when I get home.

Yikes... The carpety's aren't poisonous, and are generally pretty docile... they do bite like a rabid dog if they get cranky though... We do have a bunch of poisonous snakes in this area, but we don't see them too often...

These[^] are the most dangerous snake we get to see in our area, unless we go to the zoo to look at the imported ones.

Are you sure these are carpet snakes? According to Wikipedia the largest ever recorder was 2.8 and most never grew over 2! You may have a world record there!

I know Wikipedia is not necessarily correct... there may be more than one type of snake in the world called a carpet snake... Here's a slightly more reputable source: clickety[^] The photos I have are almost identical to the ones on the page (including two snakes in the rafters).

These ones aren't pets either... They have just taken up residence... we are fairly happy to share as long as they stay outside of the actual living areas of the house!!

Good point. I'd rather just go and safely get them out and take them somewhere they will not be a bother, because a snake in the roof can mean a snake on the floor with roof bits and pieces around it and a nice new hole to stare into
