    7. Or 9 if you count ones I was supposed to read for Eng. Lit. at school but didn't. And still passed...

I have at least three of the missing ones on my to read pile. Unfortunately I'm buying books quicker than I read them at the moment.

This list[^] from the Torygraph claims these are the one wot we should read. I consider myself reasonably well read and yet only manage a paltry 12!

I feel miserably ignorant I've only read 5 and haven't heard of a lot of them.

25,2. I only managed 0,2 from Crime and Punishment. And to be completely honest, about half of these I had to read, and did not choose to read.

I see Moby Dick is on the list (as if it's ever not on a list). For anyone who hasn't read it, here's the short version: Rope is awesome. Knots knots, rope, knots, oh yea baby. Also a white whale because reasons.

It's very UK centric - OK, there is a Samuel Clements in there, but only the one I could see. A US "classic books" list probably wouldn't mean a lot to UK readers either.

13.02 (Where .02 is Crime and Punishment) but at least I can brag with having read 8 (or so) in my third language which happens to be English.

It wouldn't make any difference I don't read a lot of popular stuff, I read a lot of tech books and more stuff like Lewis and Clarks Journal was the lastest non-tech.

I have read 11 of those, but if you include film versions then it goes up to 36.

                            - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

It's aimed at the paper's readership. I expect the Jerusalem Times would print quite a different list.

14 for me, and I have 2 more on there that I need to get round to reading. One is Crime & Punishment, which from reading others' comments in this thread, I suspect means that Raskolnikov will remain forever a stranger. (The Unbearable Lightness of Being has taken me 20 years to get round to, so far) Regards, Stewart

And then there's those of us who don't give an elephant about any "classic books" list and just read whatever catches our attention. Because life's too short to care about what other people think you should read.

What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.
