...crap health service, lack of fire service, crap internet connections, technology deficiency. Anything else you can think of?

Now now don't dis the health service, they've never given me or anyone I know any cause to complain. Some areas have poorer service than others (as with all things), which is mostly due to the people in those areas (sorry for being so un-P.C. but it's true) -- the media just love to sensationalise. Just because we (Devon and Cornwall) have the largest and cleanest coastline or any region in the entire country doesn't mean we should have to pay more for it than anyone else (and let's face it it's the tourists from the north and west use it more than us anyway). I say "tax them" ! :-D

David Wulff wrote: Now now don't dis the health service, they've never given me or anyone I know any cause to complain. They have me. I gave up on NHS treatment for dysphoria before I even got to see them. :( For a start, they'd have made me change role publicly before starting hormones. I couldn't have done it, and it may well have pushed me over the edge. To get to the only NHS consultant in the UK who could help me, I had to see him privately. He prescribed at the first appointment, whereas I could easily have waited 2 years just for HRT on the NHS. Imagine living as "a bloke in a dress" for 2 years. No chance. Of course, because I'm seeing him privately, my GP & PCT wouldn't take on my prescriptions (£180 a go). They've now relented, but only after 3 months of debate and getting my MP involved. I shouldn't have to do that, should I? I wouldn't be flying to Thailand for surgery next year if I trusted the surgeons here to operate on me. Their techniques - and the result they obtain - are years behind the US and Far East. I could go on - no funding for laser treatment/electrolysis, lack of trained endocrinologists and follow-up care. I feel very, very sorry for those girls who don't have my resources and have to rely on the NHS to treat them. They're stronger than me, that's for sure. Anna :( www.annasplace.me.uk
