That Eggcorn Moment[^] I was well into my twenties before I realised that my father's often used insult of 'Grade A Prat' wasn't 'Grey Day Prat'. Made far more sense then.

My wife has plenty, and she doesn't have the excuse of coming late into the language. For many, many years we had a parsing shelf at the back of the car.

 I had someone tell me I should watch something on Paper View earlier tonight.

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life." - John Lennon

A friend of ours used to think that men grew sideboards. And that her children had a goat cart.

For some reason I can't seem to figure out what you actually have at the back of the car. Help me out?

What is this talk of release? I do not release software. My software escapes leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

May be a British term? Parcel shelf, the shelf above the boot (trunk) space in a hatchback (?) car. Usually hinged at the top of the back seats and attached to the rear window by string so when you open the hatch it opens up too. Except I don't think I have ever owned a car that had all of the fixings for it in complete working order.

I had a parcel shelf in my first car a Vauxhall Cavalier 2 door salon and that was not a hatchback (the Audi was the same) - I remember cutting massive holes in it for the "new" speakers

Fair enough, I've only ever had hatchbacks, didn't know if it was called the same thing in saloons.

Interesting that the article comes originally from someone using "spit and Image" rather than "spitting Image" - when the former predates the latter so, in fact, spitting image is the Eggcorn ** EDIT: I know it does point that out in the article - which is what I'm getting at - the article was about eggcorns, prompted by someone not using one.

A few of them are actually worth keeping, though -- "skimped milk", for example, appeals to my sense of satire.
