I have a very particular guitar style. It's called "cr@p". I should have bought a violin.

Tried the violin once but the cat thought there was a fight coming. Went back to the guitar and made slightly less painful noises.

I may not last forever but the mess I leave behind certainly will.

We have a toddler at home, so I have to take anything and turn it into... well anything! ;-) Now when she's passed the 2.5 years mark and have a bit more patience we'll pick up on the Arduino and Android powered robot again soon, which never passed the breadboard stage and so far only been used to create 'art'. I used to program PLCs, industry automation is awesome. Still programming but it affects the real world directly. Damn I miss those days! Well, one couldn't waste time online back then of course..... ;-)

I assume that gunk is turning into beer? ;-) I stopped drinking alcohol some 15 years ago, but back then some mates tried to brew their own beer too. The results they achieved encouraged the rest of us to stick to moon-shine! This was up in the barren north of Sweden, so almost legal! I wish you better luck than those guys!

You assume right ... and what a great beer it turned into ! Last year I tried to brew a clone of Carnegie Porter 3,5% and it turned out well. Now it is all gone. I tend to like low alcohol beers. I'm getting really nice beers with little effort. Thanks ! Moon-shine is evil. I don't touch it... and also, never drunk alcohol :wtf: j/k

OK, so John takes dead cars and turns them into super-cars, I take wood and make houses/furniture/absolutely anything out of it, and DD takes suckers and makes money out of them (tres tory); but we're extremes, and this place is full of analytical brains that should be able to turn their associated hands to anything, so what is it that you actually, physically make, when not sitting at a computer?

I will suggest a ukulele or mandolin. Both have only four strings so much easier than a guitar. The ukulele is brilliant for getting going with chords and singing. A mandolin has the same tuning as a violin, so you can get reasonably good before attempting the other.

I don't have a lot of artistic creativity, so I haven't really "created" much. I did build some model cars, but only to put the zillions of parts together. Never made them. I've always found that I was better at destroying disassembling things, not creating them.

In fact I'm so good in baking that people are ordering cakes and cookies to their family occasions...I let my kids help me and split the extra money with them... I paint plants and animals only - me think it does not fit to CP :-D

You're right. Most developers I know are 'makers'..those that love to build something. My latest is a 500 sq ft garage apartment that is ultra efficient. It's really nice to go out after a day at the office and pound some nails.

Tried both. Actually I once possessed a Banjolele which is a small banjo like instrument with four strings and uke tuning. I also spent several years torturing a mandolin. These days I am firmly glued to my guitar.

Apart from the usual Cooking, DIY, car maintenance, model aircraft/helicopters from scratch etc, I have a lathe and milling machine with keeps me happy in the basement. My biggest problem in life is normally how I can find a local source for inconel 713 and shape it without trashing my bits. When I was 8 years old I also learnt to mind read. When my dad's hand appeared out from under a car I always had to predict the correct tool before any colourful language would appear. It must be in the family 'coz my 13 yo daughter asked me the other day if she could borrow a roll of 36-Gauge copper sheet I had laying around. Though still not sure if she wants to be a lawyer, a dentist, an engineer or a physicist. Oh crap! Don't tell me she's going to be an artist.

No single type of thing in particular but definitely enjoy making physical things in the real world vs. just software. So, metalwork, woodwork, auto repair and any other equipment (garden and farm tractors, attachments, etc), home remodeling stuff (tiling, wiring) and landscaping. I find though it's mostly just thinking about and designing in past years as with having small children there isn't too much time. . .but getting better. Wish I had more time!

A misting frame to help (I think) help to dissipate the heat from my AC unit more efficiently.
