Grrrr! Windows 8 and mail...

Why remove outlook express? :sigh: OK, Iris (an elderly lady with reasonable tech skills) is being moved from her XP desktop to a Win8 lappy, and generally speaking, it's not going too bad. We're about 3 months in, and she's checking her email on win 8 now. And therein lies the problem. Windows Mail (my tablet tried to make that Windups Maul, which is surprisingly appropriate...) How the heck do you get to add an address to the "blocked senders" list? 'Twas easy in outlook... But even with Google I can't get out to work! Anyone got the stupid software can try it and tell me? Please?

In Outlook, there should be a right-click option to junk it. In Outlook Webmail, you do the same. In the former, you can go to that junk menu and change the settings. In Webmail, you have to click on the Options link in the top right. And I have no idea what Windows Mail is.

As much feature churn as the metro apps have seen, I wouldn't regard anything from almost 2 years ago as a definitive answer about the current status. OTOH I don't use it, so have no idea if they've changed their mind

I think you're right: I have Office 2010 on my Win7 and it includes Outlook - and I seem to recall that one of the reasons I got it was the absence of Outlook Express. Maybe I'll move her to Thunderbird... :sigh:

Is this the Metro mail app; or the desktop client? Outlook Express was rebadged to Windows Mail, and then to Windows Live Mail. The latter is a standalone download and AFAIK should work on Windows 8. IF the metro version isn't cutting it, it might be worth switching to the desktop client instead. Aside from having a ribbon I think it's mostly the same thing as OE was on XP and prior, so there shouldn't need to be much retraining and I'd assume it would have all the features of the old client as well.

Everything's probably still there, but they've renamed it, tied it up with ribbons, and buried it under a pile of baby blocks, so don't expect to find it for at least a few months -- and when you do find it, write down each step that you took to get to it, or you'll never find it again. I used to complain if someone moved or renamed a menu item, but that was sublime compared to the ridiculousness we've been subjected to in the past few years.
