This company has FOUR [count 'em] interviews with HR, Project Management, Development / Technical and finally with the MD to discuss the wonga. So I'm either half way in or rising for the fall. [edit] ... and an online technical test for C# and Java. That'll be fun; fun like catching your hand in a closing door.

I have fallen foul of those things many times. The best I have done was sorting out a C test that suddenly ask you a question on Dephi. Best O' Luck though:thumbsup:

Could have been worse: you could have scored 19.36% +/- 80% Good luck - I know what it's like being unemployed, and nobody makes it easy to get back into work...particularly if you are any good and have the record / previous wages to prove it. :sigh:

Hi All, Regulars will know of employment trouble, I now have two second interviews coming. I feel that while I could do both jobs one is beyond the 'Here Be Monsters' sign very close to the middle of know where, the other is much closer to life but does work in an area which I don't really know (but the employers seem to want to train me!). Any suggestions, Help? Glenn
Here's another vote for doing both interviews as unbiased as possible, and make up your mind afterward if you'd be so lucky that you get both jobs.

But a really good track record scares a lot of people: they either assume that you won't stay long (and recruiting is expensive, so you want a good return on your investment), or that you will take their job as you can clearly do it better than they can... Being really good and unemployed is close to a death sentence... :sigh: When I was last in that position I ended up taking a job at 1/4 my previous salary. And stayed for ten years. (And yes, I did take the blokes job. And his bosses - right up to MD in the end :laugh: ).

That was my thought at the start. The old thing is turn down one for the other and the other is not offered was a fear. I think do the best for both and hope! :rolleyes:

That's the way things are heading; again. Late 90's I was earning big wonga, but it meant working long hours and a lot of travelling - over 4 years and I was never home for more than a few days. It was during this time that I kind of omoved to Hungary and met Mrs Wife. The work/life balance wasn't working so I stepped out and took a 60% pay cut. Worked my way up over the next ten or twelve years and got back to nearly where I had been in 2001. Then I got round house shafted and I took a back seat while Mrs Wife was too darned busy to help with dragging up the babies. Now I want to work the first question is "How much do you want?" followed by "What was your last salary?". It is very hard as people seem to prefer cheap kids with no experience over us expensive well rounded [professionally and physically] professionals with multi-decade resumes.

Same situation here.. Some years back I applied at a company, and had to go through 4 interviews, and a test, and I didn't even get it! and it wasn't even a very good job! Nerve wracking, and I am searching again and not looking forward to the process.. Best thing is to just go, be yourself, relax, be open minded, try to get a sense of the work environment, the people, try your best and hope for a good outcome.. good luck!

I would be a little cautious about the one where they're going to train you. Someone I know got a job like that only they didn't tell him that the previous guy left under a cloud and left an angry customer behind. He was left with the stress of trying to learn something he didn't know and placate the customer at the same time. Needless to say he's not going to stay there long.

As others have advised, I always tell people in this situation that, unless you really don't mind if you get neither, approach both like they're the job for you. Worst case - you end up getting neither. Best case - you are offered both. If you get offered both you can make a better informed decision which then includes more knowledge (like what the wonga actually is, and if the boss seems like an arse) If the timing is right, I have in the past ended up with companies haggling over my services! Ended up doubling my current salary and they threw in a company car :) And that was for the company I really wanted to work for anyway! As for the middle of nowhere - can be great if the commute is good. I've worked (and am working now) in a small village in the sticks - it's a nice environment, much more relaxed than the city. As for the training - it depends what the training is on. If it's VB6 then run. Don't look back. Just run. if it's on something that interests you and might be useful in the future, then it's worth a lot. Finally (I do rabbit on, don't I?) do not let either prospective employer know you have another interview or offer until you have an offer in writing.
