What would you do if you lived in isolation in the middle of NSW Australia with no internet and just a 486?

Probably you wouldn't really need Internet at all, life would be so beautiful there, simple and unstressful as it should be, without social networks and all that modern rubbish.

Write a novel.
Man! it would be difficult to write a novel under those circumstances- you couldn't do any research. Unless you were writing a novel about someone stuck in NSW and descending into madness.

Hell, I've done it with a typewriter, before the Internet existed. Back then we did research with...books.

Yes, but I'm assuming that the isolated spot in New South Wales isn't across the street from a well-equipped public library. Probably worse for me, because I'm writing SF and fantasy, so I tend to need answers for odd questions that aren't in a standard encyclopedia. (What was the average current speed of the Nile, pre-Aswan Dam, and how long would it take a sternwheeler to get from Cairo to Dendara? - needed that for a steampunk story!) The other half of it is that with the net, there will be one person who knows that the sail plan you used for that brigantine in your story wasn't used until 35 years later. And they'll write scathing reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, which everyone will 'like'.

I'd get a job driving a truck, or operating heavy equipment, like I did in the before time.

Ideal. You'd be living high in Perth or Brisbane in a couple of years. With cold beer. And groupies. And a house. With cable. :-D
