Has anyone heard what's going on w/ winamp? I've been using it for years and always loved it... I'd hate to have to start using something completely different if it falls off the face of the planet. Ever since the sale by AOL there's really been very little news about it.

Last I checked, Shoutcast was dead and Winamp went bye-bye. But, I just googled it and it would seem it's been bought from AOL for yet another round of life.

WinAmp has been bought by a radio company from Belgium I think. They will come up with something new soon, which will probably be touch based. Nevertheless, I am using foobar2000 since ~10 years. It is a great player and very easy to customize and extend. There is also an SDK available.

AOL was the owner... they just sold last year to some other company (Radionomy?). http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/14/aol-sells-winamp-and-shoutcast-for-5-10m-to-radionomy-takes-12-stake-in-belgian-digital-audio-company/[^] ...but it's been a while since this happened and there's really been no official news as to the future of it.

Is foobar cross-platform or Windows only?

It is for Windows only, but since they are (still?) raising money for an app (that will be published on iOS, Android and Windows Phone), I guess they will decouple the engine from the OS. Then a x-plat app could be possible.

I thought it went OpenSource after the whole AOL debacle?

                    I'd rather be phishing!

It didn't... they sold it to another company. The other company has been rather quiet on their plans for it. Not sure what's going on with it. I wish they'd just release the code if they're not going to do anything with it.
