This is driving me batty. In VS 6, I can hover over a function, hit f1 and read to my heart's content. In VS2008 Professional - all I get is Information Not Found. Reading over in stack overflow, one suggestion is to use the internal help viewer. My selection (of course) is disabled and forced to External Help Viewer. What's the trick for getting help working?

No trick, it should work just the same. It may be something to do with your VS setup, or difficulty getting a network connection to MSDN. You could try reinstalling Visual Studio and look out for any odd messages.

That's what I thought, but this will be the 3+ times I've had the same behavior. I know, I know, that sure sounds like user error.

Wonder if there was an option to not install compiled help documents... Try the installation again and pay attention to the options. In one of the software packages I worked on in the past, the F1 help came mostly from a compiled help (chm) file and it could be removed for "light" installs.

Good idea. I've got a clean virtual machine ready to go, I just forgot my installation CDs :) Senior moment, I guess. I always elect the full installation - hard drive space is a commodity these days, but maybe I missed something. cg

Well, got my VM up and running with all of the patches, installed VS2008 and was VERY careful to select install full rather than typical help. All works correctly. Went back to my main dev install, repaired the help with full selected, and now it seems happy. I need to read more carefully. Appreciate the suggestions.
