That says a lot more about McDonalds than it does about Iceland: years on a garage shelf and it still looks as good / bad as it did the day it was produced...:~ It's not the only one either, there's one in Utah from the same era IIRC.

I heard years ago about killing bacteria with ultraviolet light so I did a search for it and I guess the food underwent such a type of proces but five years is a very long time. http://www.dairynetwork.com/doc/the-sterilizing-power-of-light-0001[^]

Only if you put it in a plastic bag where the moisture can't escape. The bread will be dry and hard within a single day and the meat is full of fat, which also does preserve it until all water is gone. If your burger is not dripping with some sauce and left on a plate in the open, it will not be green in a week.
