This is mainly a Windows site AFAIK and we're all pretty much Java haters, so you would probably be better off asking Java questions at Sun's [sic] Javasoft forums :) But try JBuilder or Forte for free ones. They're all slow as crap and pretty much useless to me. I prefer Visual SlickEdit, although that's going to cost you some money and there's no GUI editor like the others, but it's written in C for Windows, so it's a lot faster than those sluggish Java-based editors.

I've never personally used it, but a colleague of mine swears that Metrowerks' Code Warrior rocks. Jon Sagara "Left-handed nunchakus!"

I know a lot of java editors (IDE's) but none of them is good, so, I am sorry. I have used Visual Cafe, JBuilder, KAWA and a bunch of others but looks like there is a competition among all java editors that which one is the worst :-D and each one of those crappy-piece-of-code deserves the seat. lol. :) ;) ;P :-D  Farhan Noor Qureshi

BTW: those were IDE's. Use UltraEdit, SlickEdit or Textpad if you want to avoid headaches--as you already be getting a lot of them from java itself. :) ;) ;P :-D  Farhan Noor Qureshi

I use Forte, and it seems alright, though I suppose it is what one would expect from an IDE that you don'y pay for. You might also want to take a look at Borland's JBuilder or Symantec's Visual Cafe. I write programs on both the Java and Microsoft platforms. I suppose I could be called a bigamist, but I don't care. "What would this country be without this great land of ours?" -Ronald Reagan

You could try ED for Windows, which provides good Java, C/C++ etc.etc. support. In fact it provides very powerfull editing capabilities for some 33 programming languages. Seeing I'm the author I guess this could be seen as a biased reply, but I'd urge you to download a copy and find out for yourself if it meets your needs. Click on the link in the signature and then choose Free Trial to download. Neville Franks, Author of ED for Windows. Version 4.01 just released, with a C++ Class View that actually works. www.getsoft.com
