Here in Aus, elections are always held on a Saturday. Those that normally work on Saturday must vote at their own expense, voting booths are open from 8am to 6pm, though you can always vote in the weeks leading up to the official date at an early voting station or you may apply for a postal-voting form. I generally vote in the prior weeks or at about 5.50pm on the day - either offers a very quick voting experience.

        Priapism anyone? ;)

Yes. In Israel we call it the barbecue-day. All gone to voting early morning, and then out...enjoy the day...

Nope, it's always on a Sunday here. And if you are really lucky you are chosen to sit at the offices the whole day, we do get payed for that tho, a whopping 25€. If you don't show up you get fined 500€ Much fun. (we really really really need a sarcasm icon)

That sounds like a very good idea - I think that it should only be allowed to those who actually vote, though? ;P

In the US, seems like whoever you vote for, you're gonna pay. :(

I'm not sure if that counts - i'm not certain what 'snorttled' means! Google gives me your post as the 5th hit - although the others seem to refer either to laughing or snorting plutonium! I'll assume the former, and allow it to count!

And, it probably never will be, because then more people would vote.
