Installing Multiple Versions Of IE
-
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum but none of the others seemed suitable. Heck it is not even a development question but it is one that many web developers probably have come across before. We create sites to be cross browser comptabile (IE 4+, Netscape 4+) and need to do serious testing on all the various browsers, naturally. It is pretty simple to install Netscape 4.06, 4.51, 4.61, 4.73, 6 etc. all on the same PC. But how do you do the same with Internet Explorer? Currently I have IE6 on my machine and trying to install IE5 or IE4 results in the "you have a newer version exiting setup" error message. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

You could use VMWare (http://www.vmware.com) to install lots of the same OS, but each with a different version of IE.

I don't believe you can, because IE is deeply embedded into windows. Visit Ltpb.8m.com Surf the web faster than ever: http://www.404Browser.com

Install IE 4, then when you install IE 5, use the option to install in compatibility mode (I think that's what MS calls it) which keeps both 4 and 5 available. --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ "Make sure that if you are using a blow torch that you don't set anything on fire." -- Chris Maunder

I use a combination of VMware on my work machine and ghost on a test machine.
