In France, cell phones are prohibited in prison. About 50% of prisoners have cell phones and access to the internet though, according to the last report of the "Contrôleur général des lieux de privation de liberté (CGLPL)". This is insane. I wonder how they manage to sneak so many into jail without guards not noticing. Plus you have to charge them, which is the next thing which must be quite obvious (and you need to sneak a charger, usually more voluminous as the phones themselves). Independently from the discussion about prisons being effective or not, people in jail should not be able to communicate with the exterior.

Relatives during visits, or they are thrown over the fences from people outside, or maybe by the guards, as you suggest.

Anything that can fit inside an anus can find its way into a prison.

I tell you this: in Italy Mafia bosses retain full command of operations from the prison. And it is even possible to kill someone imprisoned, as the Sindona[^] case. So yes, I'm a bit partial to the guards...

I suppose the guards are used to seeing that kind of walk. :~

True... it doesn't take long in prison to start walking funny.
