That is a culture that is very hard to understand. :(

There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Easy: honour, the go-to excuse to do shit that is objectively stupid but is admired anyway because of imaginary "honour points" that you can redeem for social standing among other retards who share your honour code. That retarded concept affects "the West" as well, see the glorification of combat and self-sacrifice.

Not sure what you're referring to but all good parents self-sacrifice on a daily basis which is a wonderful thing.

That is different from setting a woman literally on fire. Anyone who would want a society where fear is not the prevalent emotion would kinda oppose the practice.

He also thought he was doing the right thing. Right as in honourable. Does anyone ever think "hey you know what, I'm going to do the wrong thing here, it'll be a blast"? So what's the difference here? The intimacy of setting someone on fire vs only giving some orders that killed millions?

No, but if you're already doing something stupid, then one or more individuals tend to part to stupid arguments. I do not think they expected to be praised for their "honor", or anything like that.

Yes, fun times. Sometimes you regret it, sometimes you don't. It'd still be rather helpfull to keep pointing out that it is not something that can be used as an excuse.

For small enough values of human. Stalin was a homicidal maniac with a persecution complex, who murdered anyone he: 1. Thought could possibly be a threat to his position 2. Failed at an important task 3. Dared disagree with him 4. ... He did so even to the detriment of the USSR (see the purges of the senior army officers during the 1930s). The only good thing he ever did was bring the USSR into WWII on the Allies' side, and he only did that after Hitler broke the agreement to divide Poland between Germany and the USSR, and invaded the USSR.

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill
