I've been waiting years for Visual Studio on my Mac :) This release looks reasonably basic, but I'm sure it'll improve. Times are a'changing! :-D

How do you know so much about swallows? Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

Some of the commenters over at ArsTechnica have dug into it, and it's a bit underwhelming. Not to dissuade anyone from trying it out, and I applaud MS's movement in this direction, but when it comes right down to it, all they did was re-brand the atom editor[^]. (also, it's not a full-blown IDE. No compiler, no debugger. Just edits source files)

ArsTechnica have issued an update to their original article.. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/04/29/microsofts-new-code-editor-is-built-on-googles-chromium/[^] Whatever it's built on and in spite of it's limited functionality in its first release, I think it's a good thing that Microsoft at least appear to be taking an interest in supporting other platforms for development. Looking at the changes in ASP.NET 5/MVC 6, we're only at the beginning :)

Me too. I have been doing some Python development for the raspi https://github.com/joesox/raspiai/wiki[^] My son and I have been developing in VS Community then copying the files onto the raspi, then using Geany[^] to do the fine tuning on the raspi itself. Geany is great and lightweight, which is needed for the raspi, so I can't wait to go home and see if I can use MS Code instead. :~
