This is really a question for developers, but how do you prefer to keep up to date with what's going on in the world of software? Magazines? Websites? Books? It seems like there's so many sources of information out there one could spend all day every day just reading about new technologies and ideologies and never actually do any work.
Me personally I read a few tech blogs also I look at the insider news here on Code Project as that a bit more wide spread that the tech / software that I currently use both inside and outside of work

I still find paper/print media easier to read than off screens..
But...it's so bulky, and heavy, and you can't take it all with you! So half the time when you need it, or you have a chance to read it you haven't got it there.

I let Kent Sharkey do it for me here on CodeProject :) ... actually I do subscribe to a few e-mail newsletters in addition to CodeProject newsletters, including: The Register, ReadWrite Web, Robert X Cringely, ExtremeTech, Scott Hanselman, JetBrains, How-To-Geek, and some of the Stack Exchange newsletters, like the Programmers' Weekly.

I read the CodeProject newsletter each morning... Well, read is a big word, scan is more like it ;p And I read blogs and articles I come across on CP and Twitter. Don't try to keep 'too up' with technology though, because, as you say, it's a day job! I keep up with what I need to know, and even there I'm lagging behind sometimes. And I check out some new stuff from time to time. For example, Node.js is pretty popular so I'm checking that out for fun even if I don't need it.

The vast majority of what's out there is irrelevant to me, and even if it were, it's usually some half-baked here today, gone tomorrow flash in the pan that the media gloms into for a picosecond of fame. The only time I care is when someone I respect shares something useful, the most recent being Git Extras[^] Marc
