I'm going to Austin Can I walk on the streets there during the day ? i.e., are there adequate sidewalks and traffic signals for pedestrians ? Or, will I need to drive everywhere ?

Austin is a very pedestrian-friendly city. Downtown there are a lot of restaurants, bars, hotels and it has a regional draw for all kinds of music. Crime is quite low there so you can do your thing at most times of day and in various states of soberness. Did I just invent a word here?

It depends on the area you are going to visit and when. Most of downtown is pretty walkable, but starting now until the middle of September, expect to sweat like crazy walking anywhere during the day. For anywhere outside the core of downtown you will want to drive. The public transportation is crap so I wouldn't count on it unless you planned your destinations on bus routes ahead of time. There are a lot of events going on in town, most of which have a pretty big impact on getting around downtown, so I'd keep that in mind. For example, the ROT rally[^] is going on this weekend.

4th Street at night is very happening place in the downtown. Also if you have time the view from the Mount Bonnell is very pleasant at sunset, I don't remember the name but we visited a nice cafe near the river there. The office hours traffic is crazy in Austin, so try to avoid that.

I have been to Austin, and you shouldn't have any problems. Just brush up on your small arms training and get a concealed-carry permit. A pair of .375's in shoulder holsters should do the job. I would go for the Coonan Compensated myself.

Austin is too liberal for my taste. I was goonna go up there on Sunday for the monthly cars and coffee event at Lake Travis, but they're calling for a 60% chance of rain...

Nope, I checked derivations: soberingly (adv.), soberly (adv.), soberness (n.) Just checked for the word soberness[^] on my favorite internet dictionary

Yes, it would make so much more sense to schedule stuff in The South during The Winter and The North during the Summer

Depends on the part of town. And if it's during the summer, you may want to drive since Austin can be very hot and humid. (I've lived and visited all over the world, including near the Amazon, and Austin in August takes the prize as the most miserable place I've ever been heat & humid-wise. My best friend, who got his Masters degree at UT Austin agrees.)
