At least for me this is a big question  A very big international company offered me to have an interview, and I would be very happy .... but it is quite far from my place; the option are: -drive for 6 hours, have the interview and then drive back for other 6 hours, 200 euro -take a plane, 3-4 hours per trip (connection delay), much more comfortable, 500 euro By the way my monthly wage is around 2000 euro, so the costs could be important The question is... in case I should opt for the plane, should I ask the company for a reimbursing policy or just take all the risk on my shoulders without mentioning the costs? Thanks for your suggestions

Put a big box on a pallet. Phone a palletised freight distribution company. Get in the box. Should be less than 200 euros.

Your first option isn't viable: After a 6 hour drive you will be in no good shape to sit an interview! Instead, add on another 100 euros or so for an overnight hotel room - you want to present at your best, not tired and stressed out... You probably need to add another 50 euro to the plane trip costs as well to cover taxi fees at the other end, unless they will meet you at the airport. I'd be tempted to talk to them, explain the situation and suggest (again) an initial video call, followed by a face-to-face if that works out well for boths sides - unless they want to stump up for the travel expenses!

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I don't know. Certainly in the old days, if you were attending for a permanent position, companies would pay travel expenses. If you freelance, it's a different matter. Telephone them and speak to HR, there will be some policy and they can't hold it against you to find out what it is.

Unfortunately I have strict scheduling and 2 days out of the office is not possible in these days :( On the other hand I could "hire" a friend to share the driving... Additional question is: is common to ask for a reimbursement in case of interviews or would I appear as a parvenu. The company is swiss based, if it could help.

You're in Italy? I used to work for a palletised freight network that operates in Italy (I installed all of their servers and converted the software to work in Italy / Italian some years ago), I'm sure I could persuade them to take good care of you. And if you do get squished, you'd be insured.

Meh, I've done 12 hours at the wheel and still been able to hold a beer at the end of the trip!

Well ... that means that it had been a tough task, since you didn't get a ... (select you the quantity: glass, pint bottle) of gin, if I have correctly understood your preferences :)

Yeah - I've done a day at work, then ridden a motorbike to Geneva. But...you aren't at your best, and if you want to make a good impression then going into an interview after that length of drive isn't the top way to get the job. You want to be bright, sober, and ready, not tired, wanting a beer, and with an aching bum...
