The US ambassador to canada earlier this week quite made it clear that he was disapointed with Canada because we haven't gone to war with them; and that the USA might consider using economic pressure against us (canada). He said there could be some repercussions against Canada in U.S. policy, but he refused to elaborate. quoted from : http://www.boston.com/dailynews/084/region/U_S_ambassador_calls_Canada_s_:.shtml[^] and : http://observer.thecentre.centennialcollege.ca/news/Cellucci032503.htm[^] There are more and more analysis right now in the media that the USA is loosing precious sympathy support from friends and supporters like Canada and Mexico. Both those 2 countries, the biggests allies of the USA (besides UK) do not support the war on Irak; and now, the USA is blaming them, pressuring them, and not trying to keep the relation secure and as good as possible. Max.

Seizing on reports that 31 military personnelare serving in the U.S.-led war in Iraq, the opposition pushed the government Thursday to reveal details of Canada's involvement. In the House of Commons, the Liberals refused to confirm the whereabouts and activities of Canadian soldiers serving in Iraq. Prime Minister Jean Chretien did concede that soldiers, on exchange programs with the British and Australian armies, might be in Iraq. Report..[^] Don't  and drive.

Like I give a flying .... Thats part of your problem - you have filtered out too much of the real world to fit your predetermined rose colored viewpoint. If you lived in some other place like Iraq you would probably have the same low opinion of the US - its elected representives - and the actions of its people as you do now. So go where your heart tells you. And if you don't like this little character sketch then that means I'm not filtered so add another little trait to the character profile. Richard In Italy for thirty years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love; they had five hundred years of democracy and peace and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. Orson Welles

Interesting, is the Canadian gov trying to save face with it's people while loosely participating in the coalition? Not too unreasonable IMHO, it is never good to refuse to try to see a dispute (in the political sense) from both side. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

The soldiers were already in the exchange programs for some times. I'm not sure what are the protocols when soldiers are exchanged, they are under british commands, they will follow orders, unless the canadian gov. decide to bring them back.

Hey! I resent that ... It's the rest of Canada that are not regular Canucks! ;P Max. P.S. Québec was much more in favor of Free Trade with the USA than the rest of Canada when it was put in place.

Québec never has quite fit in with the rest of Canada it seems like. I live in Michigan's Upper Penninsula and when I go to Ontario they have a huge French influence to it seems like. Kind of strange being from the States to see the bi-lingual signs. But I guess if I lived in California or Texas it would be the other way around, lots of Spanish obviously. Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

I'm still surprise when going to other provinces to see some french on some signs! The best thing, is when coming back from the State, or anywhere else, and entering Canada in other provinces than Quebec, and speaking in English to the custom agents, more often they don't speak french (as they are supposed to be), and babble something and let us thrue (sp?), more so if having a Canadian Passport! :-) Max.

i think if any of the right-wing loudmouth infotainers decided to make Mexico or Canada an issue, a small but vocal number of sheep would boycott tacos, maple syrup and Anne Murray (but probably not Jim Carrey, Mike Meyers, Peter Jennings and definitely not mexican migrant workers). they'd make the US as a whole look like even more of a nation of dunces and the rest of us would just sigh and wonder what the hell happened to our country. -c (French's != French)

Chicago may have a decent Indo-Pakistan community, but I'm afraid that you just cannot get a decent curry here. I would hack my left leg off for a decent Balti (I never thought I'd miss Stoke-On-Trent for anything except Bass Ale). Curry and Rugby ... the two biggest loses in my life when I moved :(( I've become quite adept at cooking curry over the years, but it always seems to be too much like "work". Besides, curry isn't a food ... it's a cultural thing and you have to go out to get it!

i complain because i want it to be better, not because i think it's hopelessly terrible. i do like the US, and i do appreciate that part of a democracy is not always getting your way. but, another part of this particular democracy is being able to complain about the bad parts. maybe i should spend more time cheering for the good parts, but that's not my nature. :) -c

We probably have more good Indian resturants withing 10 miles of my house than you do. But the Indian dishes pale in comparision to many of the mexican and spanish as far as heat is concerned. Personally I mexican and italian best. I know I would make a terrible brit. Ancestory and royality and the good old boy network - along with the punitive tax rate and lack of available property - the horrendous gasoline tax - would make me immigrate as soon as I could. Plus I think that Cricket is an insect and fish & chips are horrible and i like my beer cold. I pay as much in tax over here as I pretty much did in the UK - except there I got a better education for free and health care for free too. The whole tax issue is something of a misnomer - the gap isn't as wide as people think. Fish and Chips are horrible. But I'll take them over a McDonalds any day. You've never been to the UK - where people get this idea that the beer is warm I'll never know. I worked in a pub for 4 years and if I'd have served warm real ale to a customer, I'd have had my head booted in (mining town). I do agree that the petrol tax is ridiculous - almost as silly as having 40 million people without health insurance. But at least the petrol is cheap. Thank God for that.

i complain because i want it to be better, not because i think it's hopelessly terrible. i do like the US, and i do appreciate that part of a democracy is not always getting your way. but, another part of this particular democracy is being able to complain about the bad parts. maybe i should spend more time cheering for the good parts, but that's not my nature. :) -c

We all know the good parts right. Your approach is better. People should understand that US is what it is because of people who criticized; if everyone accepted whatever was the norm, US would still be in the wild west, and managing slaves.
