[WAR] Poor people

Yaap, i saw the horrible scene of bomb blast on Television. Large numbers of injuries too and not much space available in hospitals and people are screaming .,argh... No idea whether it was targetted or software fault but the victims are again innocent people (whether from Baghdad or those were in WTC).

It is bound to happen. I read today on one of the sites that never in history has a defended city been taken without extreme destruction or siege until starvation. If the United States army can accomplish what they claim they can, ie, take Baghdad without huge loss of civilian life, it would be the first in history. I hope they can, But, if it has never been done before, the odds does not look bright for the Baghdad civilan population. Saddam has been known to do it before, and the US military flatly denies causing the 14 deaths in the marketplace the other day. Its entirely probable and therefore is fine to bring up, imo. Anyway, it seems this post was condemning the US and taking Saddam's word as truth. That to me is flame bait. Did you consider it may have been a surface to air missle that fell back into the city? Not saying that it wasn't an errant bomb, but anything shot into the air will land somewhere. Did you also hear about the Iraqi Fediyeen Saddam shooting at the women and children leaving Basrah? Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

Maybe they can surround the city and blast it with Celine Dion or Spice Girls music. I know I would surrender after an hour or so. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

It could have been anything. But, has the moral compass gone so low that anything that goes wrong has to be justified with what Saddam does? We know it is a war. More people will die the longer the war continues. ...and contrary to what others may think, I believe that the civilian casualties of this war will skyrocket once the troops start ground attack on Baghdad. Moral: If you are in a dictatorship, live somewhere far from where the dictator lives. :-( My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

Thomas George wrote: But, has the moral compass gone so low that anything that goes wrong has to be justified with what Saddam does I didn't justify the fact that the market was bombed, I merely pointed out that the explosion could have been caused just as easily by anti aircraft fire. I could point out that there are some people who think that Saddam would do things to his own population to use as propoganda. I don't know that that is what happened, and the reality is that the people who died are just as dead either way. But it has been reported widely that he has had soldiers with 3rd infantry uniforms kill Iraqis who had intended to surrender. I mean that you guys go waaaaaay defensive at the slighest propaganda. But, some people genuinely hurt when people dies, and they may vent their feelings. IMO, it is better not to respond and just understand that whoever did it, these people are gone, and just share the grief. As a military strategy, Saddam will have to offer something in return for loyalty, to his people. He chooses to offer their lives itself, probably the best motivator. As I read in another post here, Saddam's son tried to use the same to win olympic medals. Despite whatever the US political propaganda says, they will end up killing many more civilians in this war. But, IMO, it will be because there is no other option to win this war. The more I read about urban warfare, the more I see the battle for Baghdad being a huge civilian graveyard. Thomas George wrote: The more I read about urban warfare, the more I see the battle for Baghdad being a huge civilian graveyard There is no way that Baghdad is going to be taken without a lot casualties unless Saddam and the Baath party surrender, and that isn't going to happen. I have a feeling that before it is all over, lots of innocents will die. Unfortuantly at this point the only thing we can do is keep on. If the US and the UK were to withdraw or allow a ceasefire in which Saddam stayed in power, it would be worse than if we had not fought at all. Its going to get interesting in a very sad and sick kind of way ...:( Uptight Ex-Military Republican married to a Commie Lib - How weird is that?

Actually, the US military did this to the Vatican Consulate in Panama while trying to 'arrest' Manuel Norriega in the 80s.

I rember, but wasn't the music Motley Crew or Thre Scropions? I rember (probably incorrectly) that it was a hair band. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton
