If Anyone Gone With the Windows (ten)?
-
Win10 upgrade damage control: so far lotsa folks reported issues w/video drivers (fixable), some others w/wifi drivers (ez fixable), but overall mood is rather positive. So, if anyone was "Gone with the Windows", i.e. got into the critical issues causing PC's fatal errors? Btw, I've also noticed that the digital-era "War of Roses" (i.e. Mac vs. PC) kinda intensified these days: here's a good ol' video joke in this regards: Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates | Epic Rap Battles of History[^] :-D ... Interestingly, the friend of mine with very long track record of Microsoft development recently posted about Win10 running smooth on Mac (in Parallels). Just couple words to add in this aspect: The personal experience with computer HW/SW could be very different from the institutional one. Statistically, running business on PCs is less expensive than on Macs. I've personally built several hundred PCs and can tell you that if it's done well in the first place, then it works for years. But, as a former electrical engineer, I also have a high appreciation for the quality of HW design and overall ergonomic sophistication of Apple's products. So, in one sentence, it's kinda a choice between "Lamborghini on the Desktop" and a regular workhorse like Toyota Camry, metaphorically speaking... :)

There was a windows update that was supposed to help with some of the transitions. There also seemed to be problems if language packs were installed after some updates. Personally I see no added value in Windows 10 or Windows 8.x. They don't work the way I do. They may have pulugged some security holes they knew about for years but have now introduced a whole new breed ready for exploit.

Well, did you get it running? And if 'yes', how difficult it was to upgrade? Thanks and regards,

No never got it running. I didn't have the time to trouble shoot the problem and was not interested enough in windows 10 to keep digging. I may end up getting a cheap piece of hardware later that it is preinstalled on just for if I have a customer that needs help, then I'll have a reference computer to work with.

Installed fine. Currently I have a bunch of Windows update which fail to install. And Diablo Windowed mode is all screwed up (but full screen is fine) Multi tasking is way better. I download stuff and play Diablo fine! I can download heaps of stuff and listen to web radio fine. Everything is smooth! I did have Edge crash once on me and Explorer freeze after dragging file into VS2015
All in one Menu-Ribbon Bar DirectX for WinRT/C# since 2013! Taking over the world since 1371!

After upgrading yesterday evening, I had no network connections. I've downloaded potential driver fixes from Dell and will implement them after I'm done browsing here. Don't know if it will work. It could be a long weekend ahead.

Cool! What's form-factor? If any touch-screen stuff tested (in case it's applicable)?

No touchscreen. Though I have a friend who upgraded his surface pro 3 to Windows 10 and found it a great experience! BTW greatly excited by universal App. And those store App on Windows 10, they look just like any other app! Which is so great! :D

Yeah, similar thing reported by the friend of mine, but it was relatively easy to fix (updated driver did the job just fine).

Why everyone one using Windows Ten already? and facing issues in installation and all? I mean it got released the day before yesterday, why don't you guys wait for some days, let some people use it, then ask about their experience of using Win10 and then install it if it gets good reviews. How about that? :-\ ;P

Do you have the Cisco VPN client (v5.x) installed? Uninstall Cisco VPN before upgrading to #Windows10 | Scott Hanselman | Twitter[^] The fix is apparently to run the following from an elevated command prompt:
reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f
netcfg -v -u dni_dne

The upgrade managed to lose my Nvidia graphics driver. The "update driver software" option detected the hardware, but timed out installing the drivers, so I had to manually download and install the drivers from the website. Office 2013 managed to forget its product key, so I had to type that in again. Otherwise, no problems to report.
