So, I installed Windows 10 yesterday on the personal system of SWMBO. After she had been using it for a while I asked her, "so what do you think of Windows 10?". She replied with, "Oh, I don't know whether I want it on here, I'll let you try it out first". I'd call that a big success from Microsoft.

I see some serious problems here: 1. If she came from & and didn't realized the changes 2. If she camo from 8.x and didn't realized the changes/improvements In any case you bothered yourself for no reason - she could have stay with XP all the same... :-D
Skipper: We'll fix it. Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this? Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

I've hardly seen any changes at all. But then I've only been on 10 since about 12h00.

How do the Win10 upgrades present themselves? I have the Get Windows 10 icon, but I don't know whether the Windows Upgrade arrives via the Icon or Windows update.

You need to install the "Upgrade for Windows xx" system. Where xx is the version of your system. Install them all from Important updates section. Then you will see Upgrade to Windows 10. :)
