A nice way to say we had a bug

“A latent defect in a service management sub-system...” (Microsoft Azure status report -August 4th 2015)[^] Is there a bug which is not latent?

Maybe this would be a bug which is not latent: Lead: Why did you do it like that? Engineer: There was not other way of doing it.
If you're having a bad day, stare at your feet and smile.

I understand your concern. I myself was, once upon a time, guilty of creating such a verbal event. It was, actually a vengeful act on my part due to a buzz-word spreading right before my eyes (a different story). Anyway, it is as follows: I wrote an internal communication that noted that since no one had ever come up with the concept before there were no hints at a course to follow. Thus, I would need to "take an educated guess" which I wrote as follows:
This Will Necessitate the Application of Judicious Empiricism
"The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits." - Albert Einstein
"As far as we know, our computer has never had an undetected error." - Weisert
"If you are searching for perfection in others, then you seek disappointment. If you are seek perfection in yourself, then you will find failure." - Balboos HaGadol Mar 2010
