I think a better title for Episode 3 would be "Jedi - Just So Much Ground Beef".

The title only seems appropriate, given the news of the day. http://www.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/08/06/clone.doctor/index.html I hope those clones don't end up attacking us. Nick

Actually the episodes were named appropriately for the movie, and they were wordsmithed to actually sound good: I -- The Phantom Menace - This is obviously illustrative of the creation of the crisis at Naboo by Palpitine. And the title has a rythm. II -- 'Attack of the Clones' -- Everyone knew that this episode was going to be about the Clone Wars, however even 'Episode II - The Clone War' would have been better than 'Attack of the Clones' III -- 'Exit of the Jedi' -- Since there is no title for this movie yet, I'll assume that this is where Darth Vader hunts down and kills all of the Jedi. IV -- A New Hope -- At this point in the series, the Emperor is at the height of his power. The Jedi are gone, and all he has to worry about is a 'pitiful band' of rebels. However, the destruction of his battlestation breaths life into the rebellion. V -- The Empire Strikes Back -- This one is actually pretty bad as far as a title goes. However, it is pretty dark as the Emperor gains the upper hand on our heros. VI -- Return of the Jedi -- In this final episode, the balance is restored and Jedi return to the Star Wars universe. All is well, and the prophecy is fulfilled. BTW the original title of the movie was 'Revenge of the Jedi', I have an official LucasFilm patch they sent to people in the Star Wars fan club. Fortunately, Lucas realized before release that a Jedi doesn't seek Revenge, so it was a really bad title. Seriously, as far as serial titles go. The Star Wars titles are pretty good. Buy 'Attack of' anything evokes Mystery Science Theater 3K and I take Star Wars slightly more serious than that. When religion and politics help drive the same cart, they tend to drive faster and faster until it is too late to stop when they see the cliff ahead -- Frank Herbert.

Palpatine is a good guy at this time, the crisis was created by Darth Sidious. 'Phantom' because Sidious never actually appears before Amidala or the Senate. Palpatine is a senator from Naboo in Ep 1. He becomes the Supreme Chancellor, and later the Emperor ( Ep 4, 5, 6). Darth Sidious is a Sith Lord in Ep 1. "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one." - Senator Palpatine

Is that a Revenge of the Jedi patch that you have? If so, you could probably sell that for a ton of money, and I don't mean on eBay. ;) I mean real collectors. Many years ago I read a movie magazine article and the author said he was able to pay for his kid's college with the money he got from selling a RevengeOTJ poster. --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ "Make sure that if you are using a blow torch that you don't set anything on fire."   -- Chris Maunder

I believe it was called "The Phantom Menace" because Senator Palpatine was able to usurp the position of Supreme Chancellor by manipulating the Trade Federation and Queen Amidala from the shadows. By attaining this position of power, he was then able to orchestrate the demise of the Republic.

my 2 cents. by the time that Episode II will be released, ticket prices are *probably* going to be around 15-16 bucks (canadian). (EXTREME rip off when most movies these days have all the plot of an Oreo cookie...WHATEVER happened to the great "thinking" movies of days gone by??? *E grumbles* I will be waiting for video on this one, because I refuse to cowtow to these ridiculous theatre prices. The only thing that would make me see it in the theatre would be the title of "Star Wars II - The Painfull Dissemination of Jar Jar Binks" (or something akin to that) Title for Star Wars III? "Three Jedi and a baby" Weren't there rumours long ago about John Woo directing one of the prequels? I think that episode II sounds like it'll have lots of battles, so Woo should direct the action... Thank goodness the rumours were false about Dicaprio taking the role of Anakin in Episode II... As Borusa always said, There's nothing more useless than a lock with a voice print.

I'm still trying to get over The Phantom Menace. My company bought everyone movie tickets when it came out and several of us went to go see it together. A coworker who has read all the Star Wars books told me that Anakin will be Darth Vader when he grows up. I tried not to believe it, but several people have confirmed it. :((

Do you know what's going to piss me off the most?? Lucasfilm is releasing TPM this oct on DVD..(remember he will not release any DVD's of the second trilogy until the prequel trilogy is finished).. so let's say that he released EPI, II and III all on DVD....then WATCH. They'll go on to release EPIV, V, VI (individually) on DVD after that.. After a year, they'll then release the "Official" DVD pack consisting of all 6 movies.. Then the next year after that, they'll add 10 minutes of extra footage from EPII, and III, then release ANOTHER 6 pack of the "Director's Selection" StarWars Pack Remember all that crap about the VHS tapes?? What a steamy load! Ep IV, V and VI...normal VHS Ep IV, V and VI...thx VHS Ep IV, V and VI...limited edition box set VHS Ep IV, V and VI...limited edition box set letterboxed VHS Ep IV, V and VI...Special Edition VHS Ep IV, V and VI...Special Edition boxed set VHS Ep IV, V and VI...Special Edition boxed set letterbox VHS Of course the release schedule was spread out over several years, also adding in like 3 or 4 minutes of extra footage which guaranteed purchase by the true fans... bastards all of them... Saying that Palpatine becomes the new master after Sidious dies is akin to me saying that they are one and the same. Neither of us can be sure whether or not Senator Palpatine is actually Darth Sidious or not. While George Lucas takes great pains to hint to the audience in The Phantom Menace that they are one and the same (at Qui-Gon's funeral when the Jedi speculate as to the identity of Darth Sidious, and the camera pans to Palpatine... etc), he could be just setting the audience up for a huge plot twist, along the order of "Luke, I am your father..." What led me to believe that they are the same was because of the clues that were dropped in Episode I (although again, they could just be a set up), and the fact that the same actor (Ian McDiarmid) plays both Darth Sidious and Senator Palpatine in Episode I. However, until we find out in Episode II or III, none of us can be sure. Therefore, it does no good for either side to portray their opinion as fact.

No, they are not the same - see http://www.starwars.com/databank/. "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one." - Senator Palpatine

Been there, read that. There is nothing conclusive in the databanks that supports your theory. There is nothing either way. We'll meet back after EP III 4 some odd years from now and compare notes, ok.:) When religion and politics help drive the same cart, they tend to drive faster and faster until it is too late to stop when they see the cliff ahead -- Frank Herbert.

It is not my opinion - watch Ep 1. Darth Sidious and Palpatine are both there, and they are seperate people. And you could check out the link I gave you... "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one." - Senator Palpatine
