Windows 10 annoyances so far
-
1. You can't drag an address from Edge onto the desktop to create a shortcut. Dumb omission. 2. Connecting to a VPN now requires 4 clicks (including having the "Settings" dialog open) instead of two clicks almost in-place) 3. No areaAero. I know it's in there, buried, but so far I've not had any luck enabling it. ...and if that's all I can find to complain about then something went right somewhere.

I'd like to add a few annoyance regarding the new start menu: 0) The left pane is not wide enough and can't be resized. Both my SQL Server 2008r2 and 2014 simply show up as 'Microsoft SQL Server 20..'. I've now pinned them to the right-side 'tile' start menu and to the taskbar to get around it, still I have other programs like multiple VS where I can't see which is which. 1) Pinning to the start menu is confusing and only seemed to take effect after a reboot. 2) Removing an item from the list of 'Recently added' doesn't remove the item immediately and sometimes not at all. I still like it better than 8, but not as much as 7. :(

3. What's an area? 4. I'll add to that not being able to sort the Desktop menu in the tray icon when you bring up the context menu and select Sort By Name. 5. Edge not allowing you to modify the bookmarks easily. You have to go to the manager to change them. Almost anything with Edge is still problematic.

Only 3? Seriously! Only 3 were found until now? :O Seems like you are busy these days. ;) Microsoft just released something, anything. I don't find what has changed or updated. It is the same thing, changing the UI isn't an upgrade to the OS.
The shit I complain about It's like there ain't a cloud in the sky and it's raining out - Eminem ~! Firewall !~

1. The 512 start menu item limit bug(not sure if that is an upgrade issue or always an issue)

Have you gotten Cortona to work? I have yet to get an install to have it work properly. No sound, can't hear me etc. Also it does not dock proper to a large screen. Maybe windows was always this way but try this out and be annoyed. Hook up mobile device to larger monitor. Notice the resolution is wonky and restart. BAM! Now you have the full resolution and things are grand... Or are they. Unhook from larger monitor... BAM looks like crap on mobile.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.
Cortana isn't available in Canada. It's available in the US and UK, but not Canada. This is par for the course - so much so that I no longer get angry - just sad. Resolution? No issues my end.

Well you're not missing anything. I live in the US and apparently it is availability is limited to special installs :)

I've had some weird resolution issues, but I guess that's what I get for having a 4K monitor... :sigh:

What did you Canucks do to deserve such mistreatment? Oh yeah, you gave us Alanis Morissette. She is enough to cancel out all that Rush and BTO gave to us.

Hey Chris although this might not necessarily be a Windows 10 (Microsoft-related) problem but I've had a dickens of a time getting drivers for my HP laptop. Other than that once the initial batch of Microsoft updates came through, performance has been good so far... Thanks for the post! Cheers! :)

Have you tried re-installing drivers in compatibility mode?

- Can you not just rename the shortcuts to 'MS SQL etc.' or am I missing something? 1) No it isn't and no it doesn't ... on my desktop at least! 2) Dunno. Haven't felt the need to do it.
No, you cannot rename them. In fact, right-click has no effect at all, there's not context menu. The whole All Apps list is built on a database rather than the file system like in the past (what's even worse is the fact that this database is limited to 512 entries, so if you got a lot of programs installed, with links and subfolders, some of them might not show up at all). This start menu is a joke.

It's not buried, it's not in there. The only way to get it back for now is a third-party tool called "glass8" that brings back the glass effect using DLL injection into the DWM process. Only the license agreement and donation policy of this guy/developer is a little fishy (at least it has been in the past; for example, he kind of promised to grant access to the full/unlocked version if people donated a certain amount of money but never named a limit, so it was more like betting than donating).
