Agree with Griff. Your question is lacking information, which a bit of communication would have fixed. Regarding your question, a textbox is a shape of it's own, are you doing the find on the page containing the textbox, or in the textbox itself?

Thanks for the comment. If someone not clear with the information that I've provided it's better to ask me, isn't it? That's the way we can improve the community. Now it's reported and closed and I can't do anything. :) Regarding my question. Yes, as you said rather dealing with as simple content in the page I've check for all the shapes in the document. In that way I was able to resolve my question myself.

My question did not get answered, but down-voted by four users(or may be two, 2 points got deducted 2 times, total four points) No one even bothered to tell me what was the problem in the question :confused: May be they did not get my question. As it was my first question here on CP, so it might possible that I couldn't explain my question clearly. But they should have asked me to explain it more before down-voting. But out of all the users of CP no one tried to answer the question, except one user who commented on it and asked me "what I've done until now to solve the problem" [My Question]
That's the worst thing. CP is a community build up on each other, by not voting up-down on the content. I don't know why people really doing it.

Admin didn't close the thread - it was closed automatically as a result of the "unclear" votes. This is part of the system which removes inappropriate material (abuse, plagiarism, and spam mostly) without admins being involved directly - and thus quickly, since it doesn't need 24 hour admins! :laugh:

First of all this not an article. It's a question. If my question is not clear it's better to clarify it. I like to see that, as a community, if it's not clear share the thoughts and get clarify from the original poster, rather closing it. In the community there can be people who are well experienced as well as nothing at all. :)

I even got flamed for answering a question because someone didn't understand my answer so downvoted the answer. Don't take anything personally. In the case of your question, Afzaal Ahmad Zeeshan was right - you don't actually ask a question, you just state your task - so he asked you what you had tried. That's important for a couple of reasons: 1) We aren't here to do peoples homework or paid-work for them. So when you post a task without any show of effort or specific question we want to know what is going on. Because we get a lot of people trying to get us to do it all for them! 2) Unless we know what you have tried, we will likely suggest stuff that is irrelevant - because you tried it and it didn't work, or it doesn't work in the context of the rest of your project. The point is, we don't know what you are doing unless you tell us: we can't see your screen, access your HDD, or read your mind. All we get to work with is exactly what you type. So trying to make your question concise doesn't often work, because we don't have any context for the question. All you said was "I want to do this" without trying to explain why it's difficult for you! :laugh:

Thanks. I don't want to take anything personal. :) My point is these things is not good for a community. What if this happen to a newbie? They'll left the community for sure. We need a much better bond than this rather chasing those voting and all. I've seen a lot doing different things just to collect points :D

I gave up on SO years ago: if you aren't part of the "ruling clique" then if you disagree with the establishment, your answers disappear. And sometimes the other answer magically changes to include what you said...strange that... :laugh:

I looked-up you subject (replace text inside Word's shapes) and found a lot of ideas how to do it (simple Selection do not contain the shapes and not the text inside shapes)... You should do some Google, or reopen the question to let me (or others) to point you to the right direction...

I gave up on SO years ago: if you aren't part of the "ruling clique" then if you disagree with the establishment, your answers disappear. And sometimes the other answer magically changes to include what you said...strange that... :laugh:

SO is very, very cliquy. Whilst it can be good for answering very specific (black and white) type questions, it fails terribly on more discussion based, open-ended questions e.g. "What are the pros and cons of doing......." type questions. There is a definite elitism about SO that jars with me. I much prefer the convivial nature of CP. I find it a far broader church :)

Which is a little more sensible. Personally, I don't like the "I don't understand this question, let's close it" attitude of some members - If you don't understand it, explain why and ask for clarification. Closing the question just kills any conversation, but...it feeds egos, and may give rep points to the reporters. I'd suggest that it would be better to raise this here: http://www.codeproject.com/suggestions.aspx[^] where the admins will see it.

Probably, but that doesn't mean they know the answer or even that they answer questions. It's got a lot more in it, and it makes sense to me - but I have no idea how to do it! :-D

Perhaps I am out of step with everyone else, or perhaps the question has changed since it was down voted but I thought that it was fairly obvious what the questioner wanted. And, contrary to what Dominic Burford suggests, Stack Overflow provides a very good answer to a similarly worded question. See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14256417/word-automation-find-and-replace-not-including-text-boxes[^] (the solution is in C#, but could easily be converted to VBA).

And that of course would never happen on CP? I had so many solutions deleted, because the questions were all of a sudden gone, I've essentially stopped bothering with answering any questions at all.

Thanks for the comment. I'm agree with you. If my question is not clear why they didn't check that with me, rather reporting and closing down? That's why I expect from a community people. :)
