It's starting. The slow trickle of extra work at the old pc shop that come in the form of: "Hi, I have 10 now and HATE it, can you get me back to 7?" This may not have happened if you would have just given us the start menu back and not this jazzy version of the menu thing - something is putting off 7 users. I don't know what is making them cranky but it gonna be $200.00 a pop for us. :-)

As Oz said, the option is available under Settings app. They can revert, but the problem is that option is available only until the first disk cleanup. After that (or if manually) the Windows.old folder is deleted, that is the token for reverting the OS to Windows 7, or 8 or 8.1 from where they came. :-) Other than that, there needs a new copy of Windows OS because Windows 10 will override any other pre-installed product keys on the machine and make it run on Windows 10 only.

There was a small checkbox, a flag, saying "Use previous interface" somewhere; and if checked, it showed a dropdown with a list of operating systems back to win2000. I just chose XP and there it was. Simple, user friendly, almost fantastic. Then I woke up... :mad:

Brilliant! You had me going there for a second. I also dislike the tiled start. I've finally gotten used to typing the name of the program I need and looking at the top...once or twice before I pin it. Also, pinning to the start menu doesn't seem to take place immediately??? I pin it, go look, and it's not there. :confused: I have noticed that they appear on the next login. This also happens with newly installed programs. After I installed SQL 2014, it drove me crazy trying to find SSMS...it wasn't there??? do I need to re-install??? Restart...oh, there it is. :doh: Chris M had mentioned a replacement start menu last week. When I have time I'll look for it.

At the moment I'm using classic shell on win7, so I have win2000 menu. Ahh, the old good times...

Unfortunately, this did not work (for me), it blew my old windows version away. After doing what the restoration process said it went throuhgh a process similar to the update process and next morning as a wake up present, plain and simple Windows 10 was installed, all my programs were unregistered and and to re-install for nth time everything. Hey, from my side thank you Microsoft, life was becoming so easy for me, I needed this to feel alive again

I'm unaware of how to revert back from a Windows 8 upgrade, if it's even available. My google gave me this[^] and says there will be Settings a

Unfortunately, I have only 8.1 Pro and a trashed 8.1 Home to go back to. I'm happy to stick with 10 given the rubbish 8.1 tiles provided.

Strange, I would love to buy a ticket to go back to Windows 8.1! :laugh: Windows 10 needs a lot of maintenance. :)

The more I read, the more I get happy that I chose to sit this one out and leave my systems alone. (Win7 and Win 8.1).

Oops - this was supposed to be a reply to kmoores. If you read his comment, mine will suddenly make sense. lol Yes! I have the same problem. I install Visual Studio 2015, and then started typing "visu..." in the Start Menu. I figured it was one of the few programs I have (the only program?) that starts with that sequence of letters, so "finding" it in the menu should be simple. Boy was I wrong. Instead, it gives me *web* results by default. When I click to instead go into "My Stuff", the first result is an app in the Windows App Store that I don't have installed; I think it's "Daylight HD Free". I don't understand how searching a few dozen links and their associated text can possibly be so incredibly broken. It's really aggravating when I have to interact with it like this, so I've noticed that I am pinning everything to the taskbar and basically ignoring the start menu. Oh, Microsoft. The more you change the more you stay the same.

The more I read, the more I get happy that I chose to sit this one out and leave my systems alone. (Win7 and Win 8.1).
I was hoping, but the more I read the more I cry a little inside. I'll still install it on something, but I don't know what yet.

Thank you all for making me laugh till I cried!! Having been yanked out of my well-known Windows world about 10 years ago when I became an embedded C developer and switching to Linux, then an iOS developer and switching to Mac, I'm so grateful not to have to deal with this!! To be sure, Mac has some pain points but nothing like this. I forced my sister onto Linux (she borrows my laptop) and she still cries for Windows when she has to Google a broken package update, but I just tell her to suck it up, she doesn't know how lucky she has it. I advised my mom to get a Windows phone because it was the best of a bunch of bad choices, but never again. That ever-swiping screen with just two choices - History and Contacts - finishes me, along with other incomprehensible choices (What?! Can't edit a Contact IN the Contact list?!!). Anyway, thanks again, I'll be smiling all day now :D
