Reminds me of the term "IBM PC Compatible". IBM - we understood, was the name of a company. PC - we thought we understood this :-) Compatible - never really understood this - what was it compatible with?

With IBM PCs. Isn't it obvious? (I guess this was claimed by IBM PC clones?)

Now, it seems obvious. But, back then, especially for a student like me, it wasn't obvious.

Was?! IBM established at 1911 (with root back to 1885!) and still kicking...

Sorry, is. From an Indian perspective, IBM was in India during the seventies, when I was too young; and was made to close shop in India in 1977. IBM came back to India around mid-nineties via a company called TISL (Tata Information Systems Services), before coming back again as IBM itself. So, during 1990, IBM was a was in India.

A PC clone that could boot and run the very first version of "Flight Simulator". IIRC, that was the ultimate compatibility test.

Doom didn't exist then. This was 1982 (according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Flight_Simulator[^]). According to http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom[^] , "Doom was first released on December 10, 1993"

So I can´t have been a real Doom player back then, I had to wait all that time. Too bad I didn't know. :-( Doom was epic, and so was its successor, Castle Wolfenstein. I didn't like to have to shoot the dog, though.
