Spot on - you are up Monday! A Mutton is a "printers mark" (actually a width of space when movable type was used) also known as an "Em". Half that space (half an Em or half a Mutton) was known as an "En" (also called a "Nut"). (My Mother was a printer, before she retrained as a Probation Officer)

I know what an em is (and en), but never knew of them as muttons. You learn something new every day.

Moveable type? Offset Litho? Hot metal? Or the electronic era?

So she's still dealing with bad types.
