Don't let DD hear you say that! He gets most defensive when I remind him it's a kiddie show...

I prefer him to Matt Smith. The Doctor has to be judged, I think, with his assistant. Capaldi works well with Jenna Coleman, but she didn't go at all well with Matt Smith. Smith and Karen Gillan went together well, but I think the Confidential programs ruined my enjoyment of them a bit as they were both so irritating as themselves, particularly her.

Best pairs in the new series, in my opinion: 1) David Tennant + Freema Agyeman (Martha) 2) David Tennant + Billie Piper (Rose) 3) Christopher Eccleston + Billie Piper (Rose) 4) Peter Capaldi + Jenna Coleman (Clara) 5) David Tennant + Catherine Tate (Donna) 6) Matt Smith + Karen Gillian (Amy) 7) Matt Smith + Jenna Coleman (Clara) I had Capaldi in #6 before (Below Smith/Gillian), but he's starting to grow on me (Particularly after the first two episodes of this season)... I'm one episode behind, so no spoilers! :) Gotta agree on Smith and Coleman not really working... Both good actors, but the characters just didn't mesh right... Wasn't really a fan of Smith's Doctor in general... And Donna... Good actress, but the character just annoyed the hell out of me... Maybe that was the idea :)

Well yes, Michelle Gomez is wonderful and hasn't been on TV anywhere near enough since Green Wing.

Yes, Green Wing was brilliant and Michelle Gomez was just one of many standout performances. Watching her play the Master seems to bring more sense to Green Wing than I'd previously noticed.

The problem is, I think, that glasses are glasses, they sit on your nose in front of your face. The screwdriver you could hold out at arms length, it was threatening, it had clear direction, you could persuade an adversary it was something else, it flew through the air well, it was obvious when it was doing something, and it made a cool noise. Glasses just sit on your face.

Catherine Tate is not a good actress, resorted to shouting when faced with too much acting to do, but she is a good comedy actress, and she worked well with Tennant at times in a way that wouldn't have worked with any of the others I think. They did write some good story lines for the two of them with plenty of comedy, I particularly liked the episode with the fat babies when she was trying to find him again. I still think they missed a trick with Karen Gillan, in her first episode she was dressed as a police women because she worked as a kissogram. When they left she should have only had time to grab one bag, her kissogram outfits, and would therefore have had to wear a different one in each episode.

Agreed. But you have to admit that the shades made his guitar solo just that extra bit more hilarious... And in hindsight, added quite a bit of awesomeness :) So I wouldn't mind if they kept the shades around as a backup gimmick... But they really need to bring the screwdriver back.

Oh yeah, Tennant and Tate had some great episodes... Actually my favorite was her last one, mostly because it brought back Rose, Martha, Jack, Sarah Jane, etc... That was just incredible. Still... Donna... Blech... Martha Jones was by far my favorite Companion... Both the actress and the character... Agyeman is amazing in Sense8 too...

In view of the fact that the relationship is to be kept as type Father-Daughter that is just wrong on so many levels.

Peter Capaldi. What does everyone make of him. I must say I'm quite disappointed. Not sure if it's because he is following Matt Smith, who was great, but he just seems a bit boring. I expected so much better from him. What do you think?

Matt Smith was a poor choice and made sure that Doctor Who was relegated to being regarded a children's, or at least teen's, show more than adult. The show did start as a children's show in the time of the great William Hartnell but grew up over the years to become more mature in it's stories, and by mature I don't mean all sex and bad language like most of the US shows seems to be. Capaldi is bringing back a little more mature, a more intellectual slant to the show - although I agree the Sonic Sunglasses are a bad idea if they last longer than a couple more episodes. Christopher Eccleston and David Tenant (and the new writers) brought the show back to life by appealing to a more mature audience. Doctor Who had previously dribbled to a halt because of Sylvester McCoy (and the writers) dumbing-down the show to appeal to the kiddies as it was being regarded at that time, once more, as a kids-only show and lost it's universal appeal. I believe if Matt Smith had continued, the show would have dribbled to a halt once more as it lost it's grown-up audience section. There is too much black and white thinking today where a show is regarded either only as a children's show or only as an adult show; an exceptional show like Doctor Who is hard to define just in those terms.

                          - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

I like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. But the writing in the last season was horrid in my opinion. I did still watch it, but I feel as if the writers are taking a bit of a safe route - Peter can handle more. Haven't watched the newest season yet. And I don't really like Clara all that much. Not the actress - who is ok, but the character.

I don't. I have a lot of SF books (paper and electronic), and have read / watched it all my life. But Dr. Who is a children's sci-fi program, not adult. Compare it to "Torchwood", "The Last Ship", "Star Trek", heck even "Babylon 5" was more adult in theme (once it got to the third season, anyway).

That's complete bollocks. You don't need sex or violence in order for adults to be able to watch it. Dr Who is for anyone, of any age, should they enjoy watching it, it is designed for, written for, marketed for, and aired at a time appropriate for the old and young to watch. Torchwood was aimed at adults only. Other things are aimed at children only. Dr Who is most definitely not a children's program.

Peter Capaldi. What does everyone make of him. I must say I'm quite disappointed. Not sure if it's because he is following Matt Smith, who was great, but he just seems a bit boring. I expected so much better from him. What do you think?

Well, I think Alexander Armstrong is doing a reasonable job as the new David Jason, and Stephen Fry was the perfect choice for Colonel K. :-D

                                          Tom Baker was the best.
