It is pretty common for companies, at least in America, to provide free coffee to their employees via a coffee machine. I don't drink coffee so each job I have worked at I ask for free Snickers candy bars. No one has come through yet. Is it too much to ask that the minority (non-coffee drinkers) be treated fairly and equally? :(

Honestly, I bring my own damn coffee. In a big-ass thermos. I can't drink that frilly foo-foo shit they make here, and instead of belly-aching, I take action. :)

I've never had free coffee. My previous company was small (17 people), and we each chipped in $5 a week toward communal coffee. At the current company you either bring your own from home, or pay $2 a cup down in the cafeteria for coffee that looks and smells like reconstituted cat urine. I bring mine from home in one of these[^]. It holds an entire pot of programming fluid.

At a previous job I worked at coffee, tea, lemonade and soda (and of course water) were provided for, then came budget cuts and lemonade and soda were cut... Soda I understand, as it's relatively expensive, but lemonade is like less than $2,00 for a bottle that lasts one to two weeks. That's one of the reasons I got dissatisfied and ultimately quit. Yes, such a small thing can have such a huge impact.

I have yet to work at a place that they brew anything remotely close to coffee. I see people drinking it and calling it coffee but then again I also have asked waitstaff what type of beer they have and been told they carry Bud Light. Maybe I am a snob (not maybe. My coffee makes my tongue quiver with delight, while most peoples makes me want to gag). This is what I get[^]. I prefer "Icing on the Cake". It is quite delicous. If you try it, please do not bastardize it with any froofroo creamer or dare put any chemically processed goods such as sugar in it. It is fine as it is. If you do not think so, there is a Starbucks around the corner that will be happy to feed you horse urine. I do seriously recommend it though. They have a fixed price for shipping so if you buy by the bulk it gets real cheap. I typically buy 3*3lb bags and sell one to a family member that is just as hooked as I am.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.

If coffee has any word other than "Coffee" in the description, I don't drink it. Adding crap to your coffee (such as milk or sugar) automatically makes it unsuitable as a gun cleaner, not to mention a decent morning beverage.

It's an acquired taste... Get your share! As a business owner. Huge difference. Cost of POT of coffee = 1 snickers bar. No company I know does this. I would offer you a NoDoz (Caffiene Pill), but NOT even a 5hr energy, as those are expensive. Finally, if it was a TINY office, and you were a KEY person, I would probably do something, just to show you that you are appreciated. But I would have to be careful in a real business setting! And dang you. Now I want a Snickers! :-)

One snickers. Vs. 5-10 cups of coffee (a cup is no longer 6oz in the USA). Most of us drink via mugs. And hardly anyone drinks a whole pot every day. We used to do 3-5 pots with 8-10 people in the office. Don't get me started on the $250 coffee machine :-) Well worth it in the end. But once we start supplying snickers, we will get the coffee drinkers wanting TamTam or KitKat bars. People complaining of Nut allergies. Some wanting cookies, etc. To which I say. Bring what you would like to have or to share. I will bring the coffee, the creamer, the hot water, and the sweetener. Heck we even provide the mugs :-)

One snickers. Vs. 5-10 cups of coffee (a cup is no longer 6oz in the USA). Most of us drink via mugs. And hardly anyone drinks a whole pot every day. We used to do 3-5 pots with 8-10 people in the office. Don't get me started on the $250 coffee machine :-) Well worth it in the end. But once we start supplying snickers, we will get the coffee drinkers wanting TamTam or KitKat bars. People complaining of Nut allergies. Some wanting cookies, etc. To which I say. Bring what you would like to have or to share. I will bring the coffee, the creamer, the hot water, and the sweetener. Heck we even provide the mugs :-)

Well, given that coffee is typically self-serve, and kept at a distance in the brew machine, while we can buy snacks ready-to-eat and store them in our office - well, I think that the cost analysis leads to something much better than Snickers. Maybe a twenty minute nap in the afternoon? Then again, maybe all that wasted time is part of the process - getting us geeks out of our offices to engage in tribal bonding. You know - bowing to the magic filter, apportioning out the bleeding grounds, etc., etc.

Very simply, it's a matter of cost to the company. The 'free' coffee costs about 13 cents per cup, your Snickers bar would cost minimally about 52 cents. That being said, the majority of NZ companies offer a selection of sweet biscuits (what Americans call cookies) alongside tea and coffee. Since the majority of Kiwis drink tea, the cost for the feebie is approximately 25 cents per serving.
The difficult may take time, the impossible a little longer.
