What is the most current Windows Phone platform called?

Other? []unknown I overheard a customer at the local B&N asking for a book on Windows Phone. The employee nor the customer knew what the name of it is. Customer: "Windows 10 phone? Windows 7 phone? WinPhone?" Employee: squints at books, scratches head.

Windows Phone is the Term, Win 10 is the operating system running on it, it's really that easy :-D

So can I buy a phone that runs Win10 right now? I'm not sure. Okay, I just googled and it looks like you can. Never knew.

I've got a phone running Windows 8.1. My carrier probably won't release the upgrade to 10 for another year. (going by the timeline for the upgrade from 8.0 to 8.1) I suppose you'd want a book that pertains to the version you currently own. I would suspect most new Windows phones are shipping with 10 by now.

F*** that "windows" - I don't wanna hear it anymore! Name it "pear", "bear", or "pedobear", but I wanna distinct name that it's mobile OS with this exact version!

you want Apple's Mac naming: OSX+ Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan? wait so is a Lion better then a Leopard, but a Leopard is better then Tiger? And, what the hell is a Yosemite? I'm guessing its something that feeds on Lions? Oh you switched to places, okay. Wait El Capitan, now we are pirates?

My first windows phone app used Windows CE. Appropriately Named and ABBREVIATED: WINCE Amazingly, it was accurate. I WINCEd every time I had to work with it. Every time I found out that my method was NOT available on that platform. Every time I ran into some other strange limitation. All I did was WINCE :-) Literally!

It's not that simple. Actually, the OS used to be called Windows Phone X, as in X=7,8,8.1. Today, the unit is actually called a Windows Phone, but the operating system has switched names to Windows 10 Mobile (brings back memories doesn't it). There's also Windows 10 Mobile IoT and Windows 10 Mobile Embedded. Basically, Windows 10 Mobile is anything which uses the ARM platform, against Windows 10 "Desktop" which uses the x64/x86 platform.

Hah... you don't believe to Santa, but believe to ONE OS everywhere?? Dude, time to grow up! Hardware is SO different and we have so different tasks on 'em that declaring one OS is obvious stupidity. One poor guy already tried to be "everywhere" - his corpse with tag "Java" on the foot still remembers us don't sit with one a_s_s on two chairs. Smartphone requires separate, compact OS with only libraries which make sense + mobile only stuff (like gyroscope, Wi-Fi, 3G, Battery, etc) + very "mobile specific" UI. Desktop is different and has no limits. Nadella thinks if phone and desktop have Button, that's it! One universal button fits all :) In reality his ugly _mobile_ buttons are horrible on desktop and nobody will enjoy using it. End of story and end of MS.
