So I've had no internet at home for nearly two weeks after Virgin Media "upgraded" me for "free" to 150mbps. I have had four modems and three "Engineer" visits or technicians as they call them. Today I just got this by email. From February next year, your bill will be going up by £4.49 a month We know it's never nice when prices go up. That's why we're always looking to give you an even better Virgin Media experience – with faster broadband speeds for our customers and brand new Virgin Media WiFi coming in 2016. That's around a 10% p.m. increase WTF are they completely insane?!?!!?

10%? You're paying 40 quid a month for home broadband? No offence, but who's the insane one?

Pretty impressive that they can deliver email to you when you haven't got an Internet connection. Sounds well worth the extra £4.49 per month! :-D Also, how did you post that message if you're off-line? Are you some sort of wizard[^]?

Yes you are right, the £52 I pay each month includes £17.50 a month for the phone, I never use the land-line so I forgot to factor it in. The increase is probably nearer 5%, but its still a lot considering I currently have 0.0mbs broadband.

I do have a phone with a data connection, that's my only link with the outside world at the moment, tethered to my PC when I'm @ home. I feel like I'm in the dark ages, its amazing how much I/we rely on the internet these days.

I used to have a phone w/Virgin Mobile. I hate them. Hate there patronizing and useless India Customer Service. Hate the quality of service (last to recover from Sandy by 6 months == 300% longer) (I hate them even more than I do Verizon) If you've an alternative, you ought to take it.

Thanks for the reply. I hate them too now, the thing is this is the first problem I've had in nearly 20 years, I can't help but think I'm being unreasonable and that I should give them 6 months to fix it, but then again I'm not at all confident they will, nobody seems to know what the problem actually is anyway. I get a different answer from each person I speak to. I asked to be put back to a lower data-rate, like the 100mbps I was on, before these problems started they refuse to do that, apparently its "very difficult" to do so.

I'm Considering this option now. I did email their ceo, that resulted in a quick response from "a member of his department" but its actually achieved nothing either, this gent seemed to agree I'd be better off leaving Virgin Media too. :omg:

One item I failed to include in my first reply: there is no way to contact Virgin Mobile directly. You go through their support - who stonewall. Can't change you back? Add "Elephanting Liars" to their resume. Too hard? That's there problem. Your lost service? If their like the US based version, they issue NO REFUNDS once they got your money. I suppose, if you talk to them again, you might note that if it's too hard for them to change you back then you'll find a provider who is willing to work harder for you. You might also link their parentage to your pet's breeding habits.

Luckily, there are still libraries in the big cities. Maybe one near you. ;)

I'm with Virgin media too and was somewhat miffed when I got that letter.

You should see what it costs in the U.S. :( And in most places you can't even get that kind of speed.

I pay almost $60 for about 20mbps on a good day. I'm lucky enough to have a provider that isn't Comcast or TWC (although they're not much better). Some people in the cities pay ridiculous amounts for like 50mbps. I'm not sure 150mbps would even be considered.
