I'd enjoy knowing what you may be planning (imagining) what you'll buy/upgrade-to in the next year. I anticipate that sometime in 2016 I will get a tablet, probably one of the newer jumbo-sized wonders (that choice influenced by declining vision), and, definitely, a new monitor. I doubt I'll upgrade my current main-beast (Z97-D3H, i5-4670K, based) this year, although I will definitely bump the memory up to 32 gigs when/if DDR3 @1600 memory takes another significant step-down in price. Yeah, you can tell, I'm not a gamer. I wouldn't mind an MS Win "Book," but, the price is way too high for me to consider. Going to sell my (once high-end) lap-top, and not get another one. Just don't need it. Software ? No plans for "work;" for "hobby: try out (possibly buy) the GuitarToMidi conversion software from JamOrigin, when/if they get it upgraded to support alternate tunings. Windows 10: maybe around June, when it might be no longer a "beta in drag as release," and, when its intrusive user-monitoring is de-fanged. While all this could change should a "client" fall from the sky, and I was offered some interesting work, I doubt that will happen, and I don't need that to happen to over the "basics," and am not looking for that. I got novels to finish :) cheers, Bill

No plans to upgrade my dev box (Brix i7, 16G, 500G SSD, 4" x 4" x 2" footprint), my Google Nexus 7 (1st gen) tablet or my circa 2012 HTC Desire C Android (4.0) phone.  I was tempted to upgrade the phone, but received a Google Nexus 5 phone from work (for development) that I get to take home. That said, I've been eyeing this beauty[^] (Electro-Harmonix B9) for a while, but common sense tells me I prolly won't spring two hundred bucks for this (admittedly cool!) toy. :) /ravi

Happy New Year, Ravi-ji, The Brix i7 really does look cool; can you keep your coffee warm by putting the cup on top of it ? The thought occurs to me that I could stick at least eight of those inside the gargantuan CoolerMaster 912 HAF case I bought from an expat leaving the country for a song ... not that I'd know what to do with them :) The toy I am lusting for is also musical, and about the same price as your fantasia; a stick-on-the-back-of-your-acoustic-guitar device that produces reverb/tremolo, etc. without pick-up, or amplifier: [^]. Larry Mitchell's demo shows it off on nylon-string guitar: [^]. cheers, Bill

If someone releases a smartwatch that 1. lasts more than a day 2. works with the iPhone 3. has sensible functionality 4. isn't stupid expensive 5. doesn't try and look like a "classic" watch (what is the point of that?) then I'll grab it.

No plans computer-wise, but if Pentax ever actually releases their much-delayed full-frame DSLR, I'll be happy. One of my Christmas presents is a disk for my latest acquisition -- a used HP Itanium server -- upon which I plan to install OpenVMS once I return home from dirty stinking L.A.

I'd like to get myself a late-model laptop with all the trimmings (for development purposes, naturally! :) ), but I can't really justify it in terms of increased productivity etc. My plans currently include upgrading my daughters' computers to something they can run Visual Studio 2015 on (one wants to learn programming, and I presume that sibling rivalry will drag the other one along). At present, I would not take Windows 10 even as a gift. When it stabilizes (and has a UI that doesn't remind me of Windows 3.x), I may change my mind.

I'm upgrading my GPy from a amd hd5850 to a Nvidia GTX 970 very soon. :D This beauty has served me well but 2015 wasn't very nice to it. I think companies has stopped optimizing games at all. After that next stop is going to be a new tablet to replace a Samsung galaxy tab 2 or whatever model it was. Going to be a windows tablet this time. A newer htc phone might also be acquired soon but as long as I can make myself heard on my current I wont prematurely upgrade. Some gaming accessories maybe, mouse, keyboard and headset. New GPU for my wives computer. I think I will hold off on mobo/cpu until 2017.

Any particular boots in mind? I've been cycling through rainstorms and walking large distances a lot lately, and I'm also in the market for waterproof walking boots.

Not yet. I got my last really good pair by chance from a market stall in Norwich well over 20 years ago so the current range is all a bit of a mystery to me still (as evidenced by the pair that I now need to replace). The annoying thing is that I would still have the aforementioned wonders if I hadn't somehow contrived to lose them in my last move a couple of years ago!

The brix is noisy. Quiet when idling or browsing, but fan revvs up when you watch video, and if you have any apps that really load it, sounds like a jet taking off.

I have a surface pro 3 with a modest little i7 and 8 gigs. It is fine for development, and weighs less than one kilogram. Don't buy a laptop unless you cannot afford a powerful-enough tablet, 'cause the tablet is handy.

Now that my significant other has a nice new laptop with the latest high-speed WiFi I plan to upgrade the WiFi in the house and add ipV6 capability at the same time. Eventually AT&T will deploy ipV6 locally. Someday they might add fiber to the home if Google doesn't beat them to it.

I have a 4-year-old laptop with similar specs. I want something with a late-model processor, so I can play around with some of the modern instructions (some of them could substantially speed up programs that I write for recreation). The only problem is that I can't really justify upgrading it just for that purpose. :sigh:

I am going to upgrade my PC (AMD Athlon X4, 4GB refreshed with a 500GB SSD and Nvidia 960 in 2015) with a new Skylake i5, 16GB RAM and a motherboard with the Z170 chipset most likely [this Gigabyte model](http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5485#ov). Been using my company laptop for most work, so the long-in-the-tooth-PC was sufficient for development/gaming outside working hours. Up for replacement is the Samsung Note 2 which has been working well for the past couple of years. Taking the plunge with the Lumia 930 or 950, though I lean toward the newer model (SD card support). On the wish list is a Raspberry Pi 2 to tinker with some hardware :) One more for the wish list if I get crazy this year might be a Pebble Time Steel, really a smartwatch with the features I like, and sufficient battery time. Since I'm spending money on a watch, why not get a smartwatch for the same price :)

If someone releases a smartwatch that 1. lasts more than a day 2. works with the iPhone 3. has sensible functionality 4. isn't stupid expensive 5. doesn't try and look like a "classic" watch (what is the point of that?) then I'll grab it.

                                          cheers Chris Maunder

For the same reasons (except number 2) I am considering a Pebble watch. It works with iPhone according to their site. It uses e-ink which I find preferable to the LCD\OLED offerings.
