Think about it..Microsoft is on a big PR campaign to get Win7/8.1 to upgrade to Win10...BUT Win 10 1 has a much longer boot than 7/8.1 2 has a "phase2 boot" (after the desktop displays it continues to spin the hard drive to complete the boot process) 3 is loaded with "junk" apps that can't be uninstalled (e.g. OneNote) 4 is no more secure than Win7/8.1 5 requires more 'updates' per month than 7/8.1 I have Win10, Win7 Pro and Win 8,1 installed on 3 identical PCs and Win 10 is the worst performing. As far as I'm concerned there a reason why the percentage of Win 7 installations is six times greater than Win 10 installs. Win 10 IS the biggest Microsoft con job since Vista

You forgot 6 is ugly as heck compared with Win7 7 is still schizophrenic and doesn't feel "together" at all.

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

Yes there is: Win 7 has been around for 8 years! I'm afraid the rest of your piece is a bunch of sweeping statements without substantiation. By the way: My laptop boots in 6 seconds on Win 10. Win 8 was no better. In any case: You don't need a faster boot, do you?

              That's why I upgraded to Windows 9.

The one thing I find "ugly" about 10, is that window borders are now only one pixel wide. But I find that setting a contrasting accent color makes the borders very visible. Other than that, what do you find ugly about 10? My desktop is as colorful as ever. :)

I've got coloured titles now, which helps, but compared to Win 7 it's very flat and dull - no transparency at all. And the "new" monochrome icons and suchlike look like they were thrown together by a dev as a placeholder before the art department came up with the real ones...

I suppose this is in line with user interfaces as dictated by Microsoft for "productivity apps". Yes, I must confess, their guidelines tend to be somewhat bland. :sigh:

(disclaimer, my PC is not my primary machine, only a gaming machine; I boot it up, log in, go prepare dinner and after that, I play). 1 and 2 : (anecdotal) My experience is that Win10 loads up faster (to login screen), after that it continues to load up stuff slowly, but I think it is going in the right direction; boot time should be fast; secondary system can take up more time for all I care. What about waking it up from sleeping ? is is faster than win7/8? 3. I don't really care about those on my PC (as much as I would on a portable device where storage is a lot more limited) 4. Don't know about that; I only use Microsoft Security Essentials stuff. 5. That's good, they are working on it and keeping things under control; I'd be pissed if they only released patches every couple of months. Personally, I always thought Win8 was a botched job (bad understanding of the portable devices vs. desktop computers)

                      I'd rather be phishing!

I have 2 laptops; an old and a new. The new one came with W10 and an SSD and appears to load pretty quickly. The older machine now has W10 on it and also appears to load reasonably quickly. So far no complaints; yes, there are some oddities but it does what I need it to do. The junk apps are a tad annoying - I will never use an Xbox so will spend some time figuring out how to uninstall that app. It is annoying that it and others are imposed on you. Oh, it does seem to forget settings when you have to reboot. Con job? If you don't like it use Linux or write your own!

Yeah, gonna call total BS on you. My Surface boots up lickety split with Win10. Also, Win7 has a terrible UX for touch. Yeah Win 8 works better... FOR TOUCH, at the cost of losing Win 7 desktopiness. Win 10 is happiness.

Put the pipe down man. It is not a con job. The OS has a much brighter future and works great already. While Win 7 was awesome so was my original NES. Times change with it so does are intentions of what we want to do with our devices.

Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet. The interesting thing about software is it can not reproduce, until it can.

                                  1. I haven't measured the boot times, but on modern hardware (SSD drive) both Win7 and Win10 boot quickly enough - I turn on the computer before I sit down, and by the time I've made myself comfortable the login screen is displayed. 2. As long as the foreground applications (and their dependencies) have priority, why should I care what the O/S is doing in the background? 3. Agreed. However, methods to remove these applications exist (one given in this message tree). 4. More telemetry - definitely. Whether that translates into security breaches remains to be seen. OTOH, what is Microsoft doing that Apple and Google haven't done for years? 5. I recently reinstalled Win7 Service Pack 1 on a PC. Over 140 updates were available via Windows Update, which translates into more than 1 update/month. What's your point?

If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack. --Winston Churchill

Not here it isn't, but my anecdotes aren't any less valid than yours.

                                    This bothers you?

I happen to use OneNote. If you're going to complain about junk software, look no further than the Metro apps (or whatever they're called this week)

What metric do you use to quantify that?

I don't know about you, but I tend to get one big fat cumulative update for Windows 10 each Patch Tuesday rather than 7/8's flood of smaller ones which, cumulatively, take longer to install.

I never really had a problem with Vista, and so far, am having no very few problems with 10...maybe I'm just lucky? :) Since I got 10 on a clean SSD, boot time is usually less than 10 seconds.

Also, don't forget to disable "telemetrics and data collection" and to check periodically to make sure the updates haven't re-enabled them.
