Good news, I hope. Your :jig: may be a bit premature. M$ has a history of absorbing the windows-centric parts of acquired companies and ignoring or spinning-off the rest.
Decrease the belief in God, and you increase the numbers of those who wish to play at being God by being “society’s supervisors,” who deny the existence of divine standards, but are very serious about imposing their own standards on society.-Neal A. In the past, yes. But that's not the way they operate these days. In mobile, for example, they are now being criticised for delivering better products (or in some cases only products) for Android and iOS, rather than Windows Phone/Mobile. The cloud is becoming increasingly big and important to them and they need to interact with all potential consumers regardless of platform. It's economic realities.

Whilst not quite inevitable, this was always on the cards. That said, this is a smart move for both companies. Xamarin get closer integration with the Microsoft ecosystem, and Microsoft take a major step into cross platform development. A win-win outcome.
"There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies. The first method is far more difficult." - C.A.R. Hoare Home | LinkedIn | Google+ | Twitter

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint. You like that? You go right on staring at it. I prefer looking at galaxies. -- Sarah Hoyt
