I've just read Blackburn's statement[^] and, taken with the fact the BBC are *not commenting at this time*, there appear to be more questions arrising than are being answered. I wonder if this is Hissing Sid all over again?

I wouldn't expect the Beeb to comment yet - the report it's based on isn't published for two weeks yet, and it would prejudice or defeat the purpose of the report to comment on it before people can read the document the comments would have to be based on! Having said that, for them to take the extreme action to publically dump him two weeks before is ... um ... unusual, and implies that there is material in the report that they are trying to distance themselves from as fast as possible. Odd way to behave in both cases...One side dumps the other, the the dumpee immediately starts legal action to get his job back before any information on why has been released. Did TB punch the DG over a supper row or something? [edit]I misread the publication date[/edit]

Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

I was listening on Radio4 this morning and they mentioned that the BBC has not commented yet... that's BBC Radio4

He's not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy! Allegedly! Though to be honest it's damn near impossible to work out what he's actually supposed to have done.

                  I am not a number. I am a ... no, wait!

According to the BBC News at lunchtime, he was "failing to fully co-operate with the Jimmy Savile inquiry" and "Janet Smith's inquiry had rejected the evidence from the Radio 2 DJ" It may be a massive over-reaction from the Beeb - they are good at those - but it's also possible that since he worked closely with Savile that he coloured his evidence to present him in a better light, or hide his own knowledge of what was going on. We probably will never know. Either way, I can't imagine Blackburn as a sexual predator; it would be like being molested by a Cabbage Patch Doll, or groped by My Little Pony...

I am completely shocked at his sacking. I had absolutely no idea he was still employed.

Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.
