I am looking for job since Jan 15. During this time, I have developed many different video alalytics solutions such as * people detection & counting * vehicle detection & counting * vehicle classification (e.g CAR or SUV) and others. I have also started working small video conferencing system. I made video samples of these projects and sent to around 40 such companies. But nobody seem to be interested. I did not even get phone call from any of them. For the last 2 days, I am really tired of my own R&D. I have started considering myself as a burden on the planet earth. Don't know what to try next? Any suggestions on my methodology or in general? Thanks a ton.

Have you tried actually applying for any advertised jobs? Any unsolicited stuff that arrived at any of my companies got binned unread/unseen - especially video!

Sorry to hear things are difficult - the first thing I would suggest is to talk to friends to help you get some perspective on things. Given what you have written you are obviously very talented and intelligent, chatting with friends about your concerns and difficulties may help with the difficult emotions you are experiencing - this will then help to set you up for finding work.

The software sounds interesting. Try advertising it online. Or approach a security company / other companies that might be interested in using it. You might even want to contact companies who sell or make similar software and see if they want to buy yours or employ you.

Finding a good job is a hard project which cant be done in some weeks. If you look for job think: the employer is "buying" your working power. :-O So you better search for a company which is looking for someone with your skills. Use some internet services as stepstone to find job offers. What about extending your skills with some online MOOCs for the red hot mobile market? In your personal life you should wisely use the time: take care about your family and friends, make sports regularly. Everybody knows that it is a hard time. Take it as break, to get ready for "the next level".

May be they are in no position to hire anyone or they need some other skills. May be they are already working on something like this which is yet to hit the market but ahead of your product.

Online job portals. Whichever is better in your area. You can also take a look at freelance websites (requires huge amount of patience), StackOverflow or LinkedIn for either jobs in your area or jobs that allow telecommute.

Be positive and have patience. I would also suggest you to get some counselling, it may help you discuss your problems and free your mind.

Having a good product (I assume your product is good ;) ) is only like 25%-33% of the work. You need to sell it and in order to sell it you need (I'll write down some key points): * a professional looking company, including logos, a good slogan (like Coca Cola's "open happiness") a decent website and a "contact platform" (email, twitter, facebook, linkedin, contact form, cell phone and physical address) * a professional looking product, nice box, easy way of getting to "know" your product: presentations (with the professional looking company template), demo videos and a trial version * You need to be able to talk "the talk". The sales talk, hard to learn, most people that can do it are like born with it. * If someone buys it, what then? Will they have to install it themselves? Do they have to buy the necessary hardware themselves, what with backups? Will you advice on camera placement? Companies buy SOLUTIONS, not PRODUCTS per se. * ongoing with the previous point, what will the service be? Do you maintain it? upgrade? What is the cost for such a service? * publicity, how, when, ... ? Stupid example, but where my parents live it is expected that the security company themselves came over, tapping on windows, springing alarms, ... They created the necessity (see "sell me this pen" from the wolf of wall street) Also think out of the box: * Why is your product better than someone else's? * Can you sell it to security companies that might offer it indirectly to a company with a full package (that you cannot offer) * What is your vision for the future? How will or can you evolve? * You could try to sell to not only companies, but also private, like (rich) household people, home security is a thing now. * There other buyers out there: government, train stations, traffic control, ... I think that one thing you absolutely need for this to sell is license plate recognition. Hope this helps (a little).

                  V.

I too have been jobless until two weeks, recently I was working on just some spare time projects I had thought of when I was working did them. A good thing is apply for all sorts of roles, my experience of recruiters was poor. The company I am now with were advertising directly, my advice talk to people you know, look locally (yell.com). Try to contact local companies and try to contact them midday (not late in the afternoon or early in the morning). If you have some showable project that maybe related to something they do good, I showed an interface that used the paraellel port (which was needed for an upcoming project!) that I had put together using C# and a couple of DLL's. Best of luck!!

Hi, I have gone through similar phase and for similar time-frame with only difference was, it was more like a chosen path. You seem to be having good technical skills. I would suggest (if you are not already doing) to go take up freelance projects. There are literally hundreds of good projects on various sites (freelancer.com,upwork, guru.com, PeoplePerHour to name a few). You may (or will) struggle for some time initially as the competition is high. But, once you get started, there are good chances of getting projects and respectable income. This will give confidence and weight in the resume. However, a word of caution: Choose project with at-least some details rather than "I want a xyz management software" which mostly never materializes. Also, be careful on making sure to set-up milestone etc. upfront if it is fixed price project. You can also connect to some open-source project as contributor which also helps in resume. Hope that helps and I am sure you will be out of this phase very soon, there is phrase "there is no night so long that it prevents the sun from rising". All the best..

                      Thanks, Milind
