Hello Italian CP members! Google (and our human translation service) translates the English phrase       Full Disk Encryption to Italian as       Full Disk Encryption but, Encryption by itself is translated as Crittografia and Disk as Disco and Full as Pieno (but I think Completo would be better). so shouldn't it be       Completo Disco Crittografia

      0. "Cifrare" is to encrypt 1. "Totale" is more likely to be used than "completo" So I'd go with "cifratura totale" (there's not really any need to say "disco") OTOH, IT IT guys probably a term for it that I've never heard.

The answer is .... :-D Crittografia dell'intero disco But could also be different: this is a compromise between spoken language and literal translation. Full can be translated also as Intero (Entire) or tutto il (all of the). Disk obviously is disco Encryption should be translated as Crittografia; Cifratura has very similar meaning but I would say it to be transalated to Cipher, having the same root. I considered "full" related to "disk" and not to "disk encryption" ie "(Full Disk) Encryption" instead of "Full (Disk Encryption)" I hope of having been of some help

Although the word-by-word translation is correct, something like "Completo Disco Crittografia" will drive everyone to (1) do not understand exactly what you mean, and (2) clearly mean it has been translated by some machine service. Mark gave more understandable hint, "cifratura totale", although sounds a bit generic. I'd say: - crittografìa completa (or totale) del disco So, for instance, if you're to say "This device comes with a full-disk encryption feature", you should translate as "Questo dispositivo (=this device) offre (=lit. offers, shorthand for "comes with feature") la crittografìa completa del disco." Hope it helps.

Indeed better than my answer! However, also depends on the original meaning, as you correctly pointed out. Ciao

I believe the correct translation is a series of hand movements.

Generally speaking computing terms are not translated which is what Google is telling you. American English is considered the standard for technical terms. It saves a lot of confusion.
